@Bubbles After paying for a Jetbrains IDE a year, you get a permanent license for that version (see https://sales.jetbrains.com/hc/...-).

Bubbles68265y@jurion yeah, it’s still not okay to force companies to buy them but I it’s the companies choice to not use a free alternative so that’s on them
-
Bubbles68265y@M1sf3t that’s understandable. But where there’s a subscription there could be a community edition that doesn’t have all of the features. Basically I’m just referencing Visual Studio Community but I like that it’s still good while being free and many companies still pay for the professional or enterprise editions of it and they still get money while building a community for the people who can’t pay for it.
By all means VS isn’t the best in everyone’s case and I do understand that. Currently I’m just praising the business model -
Bubbles68265y@jespersh it is but it doesn’t take a lot and I know there’s the argument “to support the devs” which I do in devRants case but that’s because I’m not being charged a lot
-
Bubbles68265y@jespersh but it also goes off the free to use and if you want more you can pay for the small additional features/supporting the devs.

Bubbles68265y@M1sf3t yeah I prefer no IDE’s as well and I generally stick with freemium software. Occasionally I’ll pay for software but I can’t remember the last time I did
-
Bubbles68265y@M1sf3t yeah, companies that buy the software so they get the best performance, quality, and features, etc to get the best product, definitely have the right idea. And that’s definitely not a bad thing, but like you said someone in Vim can do the same thing someone with an IDE can, but at that point it just depends on the dev.
Fuck subscription based software. I’d rather pay once and fucking done.
