I have not seen this in the netherlands. The devs I know are quite easily satisfied. Give them a quiet space and a decent computer and they will work.

This "shortage of developers" thing doesn't really bear scrutiny.
There's a shortage of *good* developers working for what companies *want* to pay them.
I see contract positions offered constantly at around US$400/day. That's not the rate for a rare, in-demand skill.
Just look at all the people on here trying to find work. Pretty sure "DoctorRant" doesn't have people looking for work or pitching on FreeLancer.com for $50 gigs. -
@irene That, or coding. My rate for a day is 600 - 720, depending on the lead time. That is without having to perform fellatio.

1099 pay is significantly more base than W2 but it also has more costs. If it's short term, that's even worse. Halve it as a very, very rough estimate (which would put that 400/day at ~50K/year). I've been offered about 185% of my W2 salary as 1099 and the math still came out unfavorably (although the W2 had fairly decent benefits).
Devs act like princesses more and more, since there is such a shortage of developers. So many of them are never satisfied and always want more and more. Is this a problem only in the Netherlands, or also in other countries?
