Hey everyone!
I am looking for a decent VPS provider with adequete privacy settings, but most importantly, u guys like and is cheap.
I looked at hetzner (but it rejected my id proof for some reason) and contabo (but it has a one time setup fee which i am reluctant to pay, but will pay if there r no other options).
I'll probably go with the cheapest plan depending on specs.
Budget is $5 😅

thanks ❤️❤️

    @jespersh that was the original idea, but apparently my ISP blocks all ports 😑
    and so do all ISPs (almost) in my country 🙃

    @Jilano @gitpush u guys sure about it? i just looked up a casual google search for reviews and they don't look so good 😅😕

    @alexbrooklyn yea, but the specs r kinda meh 🤔
    thanks for the suggestion 😁

    Try Vultr, I think the cheapest they got is 2.50.

    @Jilano okay, i'll have to see that...
    for now i have decided on contado, but the payment failed due to some card error, will do it again in the morning 😅😅...
    if not, i'll go try vultr as @froot suggested 🤔😅

    I've got a couple servers on Vultr and another couple on Skysilk. Skysilk is dirt-cheap and has seemed pretty reliable for the past six months I've been hosting there.

    +1 for Arubacloud

    Wtf did you do to get your id proof rejected by hetzner? I literally sent them a pic of my id card with 90% of the stuff censored and they still accepted me the very next day. Maybe you should try again?

    @endor well, they disabled my account too so i won't b able to try anyway, and looking around on the internet, they might have categorized me to b in a "high risk" country, as they say 🤷🏻‍♂️

    @EmberQuill checked out skysilk, not bad... but not even close to the specs of contabo 😕

    anyway,
    i bit the bullet and went with contabo because of the high(er) specs than other options. on my way to setting things up (and yaay i got to install arch linux by default 😁)

    thanks all of u for the suggestions ❤️❤️

    @Electrux I'm using them for few months now, never had issues with them and they are improving. I must admit, their servers have a bit slower IO than Vultr, on vultr cheapest server I install docker faster than Scaleway. Vultr gives me around 50MB download, while Scaleway around 25MB, no biggie imo.

    Also on Vultr hard disk is faster, scaleway is not true SSD its a virtual one on an ssd, while on Vultr if I'm not mistaken all instances run directly on the ssd (not sure how they do that lol)

    But I ended up with Scaleway because they have cheaper proces, for example a 2 vCPU + 2GB + 50GB Storage cost me 4 euros a month, while on scaleway 2.5$ (2.20 euros on today's price) for 1vCPU and 512MB RAM. Vultr has RAM Size * 2 = Price
    so a 2GB RAM server is $4 (3.53 euros) but I think it is a single core vps

    When I first joined that server cost 1.99 Euros, they increased prices couple of months back

    @gitpush yea true, hence i was hesitant towards vultr, but i went with contabo... the initial setup costs 4€ extra, but for ~4€ a month, u get 2 vCPU, 4GB RAM, 300 GB storage, and unlimited 100 Mbps bandwidth 😁😁

    @Electrux let me know how it goes, I'm interested in them but honestly not sure about them to try out
  • 1
    @gitpush sure, will do 😁
    for now everything seems to b going well 😅
    let's hope that continues 😂

    I have a stick of chewing gum that can add 2+2 and run a webserve that returns 'hello world'..

    @Wisecrack 😂😂 okay fair enough, what do u use exactly? 🤔😁
  • 1
    @Electrux

    It's raspberry pie flavored chewing gum.
