The monitor stand alone is $999

    6k display. $4999**

@HolyTeabags that's also the answer to the question "should I buy this crap"

I'm a media proffesional i'm ok with the price. Except for the monitor stand. How do you gonna explain the $999 to a client for a piece of metal 😟

Brutalist aesthetics to go with how they treat your wallet. I say this as a Mac user who can’t have more than 10 tabs of ANY browser brand open on a 2015 iMac or it slows to a crawl. Running Photoshop on it was impossible just 3 years into owning it. I just reimaged it with the new Mojave update and it’s a little better. But this whole experience makes me pause at shelling out over $6k for this.

@FrodoSwaggins I already own a top spec 2013 mac pro. IIRC I paid somewhere around $12K for it back in the day.

My problem is not price itself, but what I’m getting for the money. I am fine with Apple tax and all, but this time I think it is just a bit too far. And boy it’s ugly.

I’m still buying my $20K machine, just not from Apple this time.

Fucking ugly and useless as usal

    @RantSomeWhere no, @dudeking , come back in

@FrodoSwaggins Yeah I can totally imagine this being the dream machine for video production. Unfortunately my niche is in realtime geospatial data analysis, and those algorithms need all the ram and CPU power you can give them.

I’ll probably opt for a modest machine as the client, and a few poweredges on a rack.

And here I thought I was going overboard when speccing out a 2 - 3k Linux & windows box for programming, blender, and game dev.

Well at least it looks cool (monitor)..

I'm not convinced that monitor stand is wide enough, to provide proper stability.

@Nanos maybe they include double sided tape, so you can glue it to the desk (:

@Nanos if there was a magnet, you would lift whole table off, when picking up monitor.

It's probably an electro-magnet, so you can dynamically toggle magnetic field on/off with a push of a button.

Dunno why they even bother to make a stand at this point... monitor could easily hover like that.

@WildOrangutan Superconductors in the base enable quantum locking to your desk! So technically the stand isn’t sitting on the desk, it’s quantum levitating

Dunno, I think it must be smth with huge power draw. Just look at the case. Judging by the handles, it probably has about 50 kg transformer inside.

The monitor is justifiable, the stand and the mac is not.
