iAmNaN67506y@jespersh especially if you don't know if another multi-ton vehicle is sitting on the tracks. -
hitzoR2556y@jespersh In Europe, trains are driven in much higher speeds at almost all conditions. -
iAmNaN67506y@jespersh it takes a lot of time to stop all that steel, and that is when you see the is a problem ahead. When the is no warning, there ain't no stopping, and "we're all over the place..." -
hitzoR2556y@iAmNaN Yeah, accidents happen, even with best possible security and control systems. But trains are still much safer than road vehicles. They are the safest transportation together with airplanes. -
C0D4644176y@rutee07 well that's the backup plan.
Bit harder in Melbourne but Sydney should be fine to find some. -
@iAmNaN @jespersh @C0D4
You don't cancel the two trains out of four within ten minutes due to fog. That happens with airplanes when they "go around". If trains A, B, C, and D all are on the same track, with a three minute interval, you cannot cancel B and C due to fog while A and D are on schedule. They cannot "go around". Doesn't compute. -
@iAmNaN
Yes. But there were non available to those cancelled trains. I happen to know the track between those two stations -
sSam14656ySomebody falling asleep on the rails, terrorists putting some metal block on the rails, like there's so much stuff that can go wrong... -
@sSam
So, terrorists wait for train A to pass, put something that might endanger train B and C, and then remove it before train D arrives? -
@sSam
Which wasn't the case. With Sydney Trains, their number one problem is lack of drivers. If a driver feels like not working today and calls in sick, they cancel a train and come up with a story for it. Last year when DST happened, half the trains were cancelled due to drivers calling in sick. I guess this cancellation due to fog had something to do with drivers as well. -
620hun80996y@hitzoR except for Hungary where the trains are always delayed because of weather, whether it’s too hot, too cold or too average. -
@sSam
I'm complaining they are providing a crappy service. When it fogs, they cancel trains. When it rains, it starts dripping through light fixtures in the trains. When a train driver sneezes, they cancel trains again. Shall I continue?

Well yeah. He is right!
Give that man some HUGE FUCKING COOKIES!
Some trains in Sydney were cancelled today due to heavy fog. Guess the drivers couldn't use ILS to land next to the platforms
