@dudeking Not specifically, (never said that to anyone in a way of 'you may reveal this' either as far as I'm aware) just dealing with stuff right now and had some personal issues.
-
@linuxxx good luck with whatever you're dealing with.
Also have you heard about the tusky/gab scandal? What is your opinion? -
@linuxxx here's a quick summary
Tusky is a mastodon/fediverse client for android. It's Foss and available on f-droid.
Gab is a free speech alternative to twitter which recently switched to using the fediverse
Since gab allows all speech deemed legal under the USA's first amendment it has attracted Republicans/conservatives since they often get banned on twitter. You may also occasionally find Nazis but I've browsed that site for a few months and I can say, those occasions are rare and I think most of the times sarcastic
Start of drama:
Gab wasn't part of the fediverse for a bit of time. They had their own app which got rejected on the apple app store and they had their app on the google play store for a few days until it got removed.
They did a really smart thing and decided to switch to the fediverse. Main reason for the switch being that google and apple wouldn't ban the tens of fediverse compatible apps just to get rid of them.
To be continued -
Here comes tusky:
Someone submitted a PR https://github.com/tuskyapp/Tusky/... that when someone tries to use a gab domain to log in, they get rick rolled.
Fdroid has said that they believe this was the right thing to do and they won't allow any gab apps on fdroid https://f-droid.org/en/2019/...
In the end gab made their own tusky fork that allows you to log in
Additional drama
A little bit before gab switched to the fediverse they created dissenter, the so called comment section of the internet. It basically allowed you to use the site/extension to comment on any page by acting as the comment section. The same rules as gab applied. The extension got rejected on the chrome web store and it took Mozilla a few days to take it down from firefox and then added restrictions to installing addons manually basically preventing the installation of addons https://github.com/gab-ai-inc/... -
Dissenter aftermath
The folks at gab forked brave and added the dissenter extension and removed the bat bullshit
My opinion
I think censoring/banning these apps is a direct contradiction of the Foss philosophy. The fact that google did that didn't surprise me but Mozilla and fdroid? Come on
Did anyone see @linuxxx around?
He hasn't been on here for the last few weeks, which is really unusual.
