What do you think about the future of Visual Basic?

The day MS remove it from Excel, is the day VB will die a beautiful death.

Until that day, I'll continue to cry myself to sleep at night.

Thanks for welcoming. :-) A friend of mine currently absolves a distance learning course for programming. And i wonder why the teached language is Visual Basic. In my opinion i don't think it has a proper future.

VBA is at least useful in excel and other msoffice products. I use it fairly regularly. Though I don't see any particular reason it couldn't be replaced by something better. Excell is a wonderful application, which could also be replaced with something better. Some open source replacement would be excellent.

@Jacquobite sadly open source alternatives use it too. Something about being compatible and all 😑

I reckon if ms replaced it with python or a similar high level language it would be get some traction.

I hate it with a burning passion. MS should have made an alternative a long time ago.

VB6 was super cool for quickly stitching together smallish GUI tools. What a pity that nothing came after that.

@C0D4 you need psychological help if that makes you cry kiddo.

@Nanos you can mix C with your C++. You can mix assembler with C++. Don't mix Basic with C++, unless you are writing for legacy DOS... and even then, don't.

VB is a pain in the dick.

@hars777 VB was my first language 15 years ago.
Not much has really changed on that front after .NET and yet it still lingers around.

@Nanos good luck. Once you enter the professional world, there are very few specialists. In most cases, discussing becomes a dead end.

@Nanos The professional world pays well. It pays for my habits, my hobbies, and my needs, with some leftover for a rainy day. I've done the independent gig, and while it was nice, it could get very lean.

Honestly I don’t have anything against it. I just wish there was more and good resources to learn it. There’s only few tutorials and the ones I’ve seen are either really basic which is okay to start but after nothing really good. Also as a C# dev I love that Microsoft is focusing on it but I really wish there was a team for VB as well so it’s not left out.
