It will be good if he can escape to Russia...
He dedicated his life to tell the truth and uncover the dark secrets of government instead using his hacking ability to rob people...
I hope he stay good... -
@darthkebab Truth always is.
Assange was a hero until he barricaded himself in that embassy.
Now he should face the consequences of being a thorn in Uncle Sam's eye. -
@ashwiniviolet you can't simply uncover the truth and crimes of democratic governments and stay alive/live your live as before...
USA is good. Russia is evil. China is evil. Syria is evil. Lybia is evil. Everyone is evil, but the US. -
why are these people not welcomed home as heroes? what the fuck is wrong with the general citizenship when they are allowed to be openly prosecuted by the state - the state being a tool for the population, not the other way around.
-
@ArcaneEye
Because Australia is not a sovereign country. It's run by Chinese money and US mentality while trying to mimic England. -
@FuckJava None of them is "good".
I'm expat-Russian, and my patriotism has its limits, just as the hate towards the US. -
@ArcaneEye because governments set themselves above citizens. Any country. Any ideology. Democracy, monarchy, dictatorship. The same shit everywhere. Keyword: greed. More money. More power.
-
No one can tell who is good and who is bad...
Even people of north Korea think they are the on good side and Kim is hero...
So it's only our opinion that makes a country good and bad... But no country is bad till human living there...
For everyone their country is good. -
@ashwiniviolet good and bad is a matter of perspective and material interests.
Concidering the current and historical geopolitical turbulences, everything boils down to: "Catch the thief!!!" - yells the thief.
Everyone is doing the same shit and tries to justify that by telling tales of how he's on the good side and everyone else on the bad side. -
@darthkebab
Believe it or not, I am on the good side. Actually, I just checked and the good side is with me. -
@FuckJava im on the dark side. I love the force, nukes, bears and vodka. And cookies. Don't forget the goddamn cookies!
-
Assange is a hero. Of course, the government of the biggest rogue state at present, the USA, will want to do a show trial on him because he has exposed their crimes.
That's not saying US citizens are bad people; they have as little to say over the decisions of their government as the citizens in any other country, be it under democratic guise or not. Democracy is just about electing faces - not about choosing what these faces shall do afterwards. -
Root825086yAssange is a hero.
Why the hell would anyone want him dragged in for execution? You people are sick. -
Condor324966yAssange is a hero. Sure to governments he committed high treason, but that doesn't change the fact that he exposed what the US government is really like. I hope that he'll be able to flee to Russia. Contrary to what the US (and to a lesser but still significant degree the European) governments want us to think, Russians aren't bad people. Their government is odd to me, but their people are highly technical.. and quite frankly.. just people like you and me.
Pissing off a government by unveiling their dirty secrets shouldn't be grounds for prosecution. -
Root825086yExposing a criminal is your civic duty, except when the criminal is the government -- in which case it's treason.
🙄😡😡😡 -
@Root technically, Merkel must disappear behind bars for treason. Practically, she is untouchable and everyone against her and the red/green government is called a Nazi.
-
Root825086y@darthkebab Politics.
Blame the other side of what you're guilty of, bribe the justices / law enforcement so you're immune, pass laws / stir public unrest against your rivals, etc. The game hasn't changed for thousands of years.
Some people really are akin to nazis (read: fascists), though, and they're usually the ones most guilty of the above. -
@Root Goebbels approves. And the leftists are that far left, that they come out right. Basically, nazis against nazis and everyone else not sharing their opinion.
-
GTom7256yHow the f can someone even think Assange did something bad. Even tho he probably isn't the nicest of humans but he had the balls. Now he is going to pay for it by his life, so we(!) can know how nasty the US is.
-
Root825086y@GTom To be fair, most governments are bloody terrible. People who want power should never have it.
-
Wasn't Assange wanted for sexual assault? 🤔
I am definitely out of the loop with that guy... -
@Condor @Root
A hero faces the consequences of his actions. He did not. He thought Uncle Sam would react to his acts of treason the way Australia would; condemning his actions. But Uncle Sam rewards treason. another way.
That being said, I'm not against what he and WikiLeaks did to the US and other countries. He deserves a medal for that. I'm against him escaping Sweden in the first place, and seeking asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy. -
@Yamakuzure
The lady remembered she had consented to have unprotected sex with him last year or so. -
I’m old enough to remember when the radical Left at first lauded Assange as a hero when he was mainly slaughtering sacred cows of the Right. But I guess now that they believe he is not totally on their “side” on everything, TO THE GALLOWS!
Et tu, Brute? -
Root825086y@FuckJava
"Treason," aka showing the government is guilty of breaking its own laws.
"Treason," meaning the government declared it is above the law.
"Treason," meaning harming the government; doesn't much matter how or why.
The loophole that makes Assange actually guilty, however? He backed his claims up with hard evidence -- evidence the government had declared as confidential, therefore making it illegal to make public. If he complied with the law, he could not prove the government's illegal behavior.
When the criminal makes the laws and acts as judge and jury, who holds the criminal accountable? Nobody can, legally, whatever "legally" even means at that point. -
Root825086y@FuckJava
A hero dies, then?
Why not continue your work from safety?
The latter seems much more prudent. -
@Root
Good argument. My counter argument is, a smart "hero" would prepare. He did not. He held two nations' relationship hostage by seeking asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy. If a hero is not smart enough, he should go extinct. Natural selection. -
Root825086y@FuckJava Seriously. If you have proof that someone is guilty of crimes and corruption, why would you willingly submit yourself to them because they say you're guilty? Especially when they want to bury any and all evidence of their guilt? Especially when they've declared all evidence of their crimes confidential?
You cannot trust someone to give you a fair trial if you've already proven them corrupt. And you certainly can't expect any leniency for exposing that corruption. The best you can expect is a rigged trial put on for show -- showing the public that you're wrong and the government is just.
So a hero should stay and watch all of their work dismantled and mocked by the very criminals they exposed?
Fuck that. -
Root825086y@FuckJava He prepared pretty well, and exhausted his international legal options.
Russia would probnlly use him as a bargaining chip. China would just imprison/shoot him and demand money as a "trade." Im sure he had reasons against Switzerland, Sweden, etc.
What else could he do? Flee forever?
Ah right, "A hero doesn't flee."
Sounds like a short-lived hero. -
@Root
No. You didn't get my point. If I am exposing the US government, I won't go to their 54th state, England. I plan to be in China before publishing the documents, or Russia, or Cuba, or any other unfriendly country. Hell, Iran even. Some place they can't reach me easily. If I don't prepare, I do deserve to be caught -
Root825086y@FuckJava He isn't an idiot.
If he went to, ex. Brazil, and the US sent a team to capture him, nobody would really notice; it certainly wouldn't make international news. But London? A raid on an embassy, in a crowded city in a first-world country is a trifecta of an act of war, an international incident, and a huge spectacle. England wouldn't take kindly to armed US agents acting within its borders, even given a good reason. Everyone would notice, and the act of capturing him would lend credence to his accusations. It would make him a martyr.
Assange has a flair for the dramatic, and here it works. Or at least worked for a very long time.
Or you're right, he could have escaped to China and be apprehended quickly, escapes to Russia and tolerated until someone realized his capture could make them rich, or Cuba where a US team could capture him within a week because the US doesn't respect Cuba.
Iran might be a decent choice, but Assange isn't Muslim, so that could cause problems. -
@Root
He is an Aussie, and thus by definition short sighted. He is now past his expiry date. WikiLeaks can function without him. -
Root825086y@FuckJava Stereotypes apply to generalities, not specifics, and Assange isn't exactly average.
-
Root825086y@FuckJava And made a martyr.
Just like he planned.
His disappearance will probably also trigger some deadman's switches and release further material. -
@Root
If he disappears, is stricken by a bolt of lightning, or dies of rabbis, then he becomes a martyr. Right now, as the magistrate in Her Majesty's Court correct said, he is "a narcissist who cannot get beyond his own selfish interest" -
Root825086y@FuckJava He is a narcissist.
But selfish interests? Exposing crimes and wrongdoing is selfish? I suppose because he gets credit, but so what?
Also, he wouldn't be a martyr if he died falling down the stairs, struck by lightning, or eaten by rabbis. But imprisoned or executed by the very parties he is calling corrupt? Absolutely. -
According to his former SysAdmin, Assange is no hero, but merely an attention whore.
He never cared about the content published itself but the sensation factor only.
Let me see if I can find the interview...
Woah! Difficult to find:
https://mobil.stern.de/panorama/... -
Root825086y@Yamakuzure Results are what matter, not motivation nor intention. So even if it's true, it's irrelevant. It doesn't change the information he revealed.
-
Root825086y@FuckJavaA Liability? I'm sure his staff has already handled everything. Even if he gives up everything he knows, Wikileaks will continue.
-
@Root of course. I am just feeling uneasy calling such a person "hero".
... Actually there wasn't anything heroic on his side.
The documents he leaked weren't acquired by his own doing, but given by others.
Let's just say that the idea to start Wikileaks was a good one. -
Root825086y@Yamakuzure He procured quite a few himself when Wikileaks was young. I don't know about after that.
-
@Yamakuzure it's fairly easy to criticise someone.. Maybe he not acquired the document himself but he has guts to publish...
Do you have that guts?
Will you go against world?
Will you stay in other country in embassy?
No definitely not.. All you can do is just post comment on rant that you don't understand.. -
@ashwiniviolet yes, yes, no need to, wrong, your turn.
You have no idea. For what reason *did* he hid in the first place? Huh?
