So I gave i3 a try today via Manjaro i3 (don't have time to get a config of my own from scratch, would rather have a working setup which I can fiddle around with).

It's pretty...good actually. Doesn't work quite as well as I'd hoped because of my laptop's small screen, but still nice. Works well with my Blender and editing workflow too, so that's a plus.

After I'd spent an hour fixing audio and WiFi issues, of course, because Linux, but then that's just part of the fun amirite

    @RantSomeWhere oh, yeah, that does happen.
    First time I didn't know why i3 was making thinner and thinner new windows lol. Guess I should've RTFM-ed better.

    Will give bspwm a try, thanks.

    I remember my setup from a couple of months ago:
    * i3,
    * switching windows had fade transitions thanks to compton,
    * the desktop wallpaper was actually a video, either a gif from http://1041uuu.tumblr.com/ or the video of a meadow that I applied slow motion to.

    It was very relaxing for the first week, the feeling wore off afterwards, unfortunately.

    I don't know exactly why I dropped it. I think because some windows rendered like shit when they were non standard, like playonlinux, that software is a POS, but it's very helpful.

    Maybe I'll go back to it in the future.

    Fixing audio and wifi. In 2019. That's why desktop Linux is still hobbyist level. *sigh* But yeah, nobody invests any professional effort into that because servers don't need it, and there's no money in desktop.
