h4xx3r17166yNo thanks, if the society limits your income because of the degree and you're a misfit for the university system, you're practically fucked. Hopefully this isn't in place in most of other countries u_u

lunadev1766y@h4xx3r I thought life fucks everyone one way or another 🙈
Jokes aside... Ure right. But it’s a norm here that everyone tries to get at least a degree. So it’s easier to land a job than without one.
I do personally like to be in uni environment cuz it’s fun. Nice stuffs, free food or cheap food, beautiful ppl... and at least ure trained to work in a team, so more or less got used to working with others.
May be I wouldn’t be chasing certs if I’m in West. Who knows. I changed major from networking to programming cuz I didn’t want to chase certs.
At the end of the day, ppl have to make living while doing the things they’re interested.. and this keeping my boat floats 😁
So i consider them reinforcements or investments for my boat. (Sorry for long reply tho 😅) -
h4xx3r17166y@lunadev I did go in university too, but it sucks to see yourself more capable at learning at the job than university. Everyone each own, but being paid less for the rest of your life because you didn't follow the same path of others but still capable of the same or greater output in your work is 🤬

lunadev1766y@h4xx3r ya true true. But I guess most developers have adventure spirit. So they can be independent as long as they have a decent network and workstation.
The points I mentioned above only applicable when trying to get into big companies here. of course still have to perform well even after landing a job there. Majority of us will try to get it anyway cuz it’s a norm here.
IIt’s not the rest of the life tho. At some point I will definitely find else where. But for now, have to follow what other Romans’ are doing.
So, if certs helpful in any ways, go for it I guess. Can’t complain much abt their system 😁

A little background of me. I’m a firm believer of knowledge is power, skill is practice and hard work. Especially for this field, it’s easier to self learn the skills or language these days without having to take loans or burn a huge hole in ur wallet and stuff. But i personally feel, it’s hard to follow an effective path of learning when the info is everywhere. So have to be careful with that. (that’s why I’m here to learn from experts, lurking around)
Sure, degree is just a paper or validation that this person has completed this and that. But doesn’t reflect their actual skill. Especially for this field where u can just show ur skills by making projects. If ur potential boss is impressed by ur skills, u are hired. BUT if ure in Singapore, they require u to have degree by law. No matter how skilled u are, u only get specific amount of salary within a preset range. The range goes by Diploma, Degree, Master, PhD. Etc. U will still get hired by a company if they like u, but won’t get more than a preset range.
I was contented with just my Diploma. But decided to get degree cuz I wanted to earn more. And now considering to go for ms, just cuz my current company gives sponsorship.
Aside from salary, I do think getting a degree in University is one of the important phases of the life, where ure working hard, trying to juggle different things. Also, u do get other perks being a uni students, like discount for books, get access to latest devices if the uni has.
But all in all, whatever floats ur boat, right.
