Today I got the order to block all ports needed for LOL at a school. Even if its just LOL, is still violates everything I stand for. Lets hope that the children know what VPN is

    Block port 80, I guess

Very unprofessional suggestions in comments. But I guess they fit into author POV on this order.

@arraysstartat1 It's the price some pay by not learning about networking themselves. Those who dont understand code are at the mercy of those who do.

@RustyHackleford So what you are saying is that his supervisor should learn networking, fire this guy and do overtime for when he needs to do work of that employee? When you go to gett haircut and you get bald head instead you just shrug it off because you don't know how do do it yourself? Fuck me, some people.

@jespersh What kind of argument is that? Is devRant kindergarten for programmers and professionalism in work is faus pas here?

What you suggested is that he sabotage workstation of his supervisor in order to make a point that preventing improper use of school property by students is wrong. I really don't understand this.

This reminds me of my high school which blocked with a firewall most social media sites...except only on the HTTP protocol. You just had to access all the sites in the HTTPS protocol and you easily overpassed the firewall filters.

@arraysstartat1 im saying if somebodys outsourcing a simple port blocking task down the hall to O.P., chances are they aren't savy enough to do it themselves. Which puts the situation in O.P.'s favor as they probably take his word as law around there. Now, if I got a haircut I'd be at the mercy of the hairdresser as I dont know how to cut hair. I'll give you half credit for that. But slight misdirection and completely flubbing the job are two completely different things. Nobody's telling O.P. to do anything malicious, and even if he blocked said ports LOL is still accessible through other means, ultimately devoiding the value in the gesture. All blocking the ports is going to do is make the game run slightly slower for the kids who arent tech illiterate, that can get out of the network. When I was in school somebody taught me how to proxy out in roughly 5 minutes from first hearing the concept.

@drewop dont let them push Charlie work on you

Block the ports and redirect it to a page explaining that it was blocked and that bypassing the restriction with a VPN is against policy

Should be enough of a breadcrumb
