We claim to be more connected than we ever were, thanks to technology. But how connected are we really? We barely speak to each other anymore. It’s easier to send emojis on Whatsapp than it is to meet someone and express the same emotions we try to convey via smiley faces.

True. We sometimes even text auto-suggested messages and emojis to each other ☝️

You are communicating something with emoji or whatever else you use over long distances. If not for those new communication methods, you would be able to talk only to few people. In addition, not everyone is comfortable with face to face or places that you meet people in physical world, so it enables a lot of people to connect, that otherwise would not.

It is possible that some people that would normally communicate face to face will stop or limit this activity due to better (in their opinion) alternatives and thus leave those who would rather just stick to traditional ways feel like we are less connected, but that only means you are less connected, not them.

Well, we expats and mainly our mothers are really really happy of how communications evolved ^^

We are able to communicate more and with more people than ever, but that doesn't mean we are making more connections.

Once I read a survey found that for someone who the average number of Facebook friends was 155, they considered just 28 per cent to be genuine, or close, friends and said they would turn to just four in a crisis.
