This weekend (So, tonight and tomorrow, if I have the energy) I will be archiving my devRant data. I'll build my own tool which not only downloads rants, images, and comments, but also displays it in a readable (static HTML, if possible) format.

By next weekend or the following, I will be deleting my account. This is not due to drama, but due to the inactivity of the platform and the need to clean up my digital footprint before servers go down and it's too late.

Yeah - everything on the internet is permanent, but there's no need to make it easy for stalkers, I guess.

If you are interested in my progress on the tool or want to have a chat before I go, I'll check the comments every once in a while. Notifications are broken enough to be useless, so don't expect fast responses.

    Leaving the platform actually is helping it to death. devPlace is quite some time running now and doing great!

    Also, regarding your digital footprint, that's cute, i have everything already! IT's GIGABYTES :P

    I will run an update of the database again.

    Oh a tip, crawl the site for data and merge it with api data to get the full data. This has to do that the site returns rants with MANY comments and the API does not. Don't worry about the performance of the devRant site, crawled it several times and it did not notice it at all. It's quite some gigabytes btw.

    Hmm... Normally, we'd have a captain steering the ship away from the icebergs. We've hit at least three, thus far:

    0. Attachment upload,

    1. Notifications,

    2. Expired cert.

    The captain at this point could be shouting 'abandon ship' but, w/ no captain, there's a deafening silence && sailors patching holes in the hull w/ chewing gum && cardboard.

    Fucking hell. We have a nice but neglected dying platform, yet those fuckers are at it, still...

    A rusty rod w/ nails up the fucker's ass would be too good for him.

    I'd be interesting in your tool. I've often archived all my data on dying platforms or platforms I've deleted my account from:

    There are some old posts of mine that are difficult to get to without a lot of backtracking; would love to just have all of them in a nice JSON blob.
