Amazon? The answer is probably just that they're evil and taking out devs with high salary and replacing them with brand new ones at half the cost and 0% the knowledge of your internal systems.
This is called "brain drain" and is the death throws of a dev team sorry. -
@AlgoRythm no, a logistics company. Interestingly enough, I found a Town Hall meeting on my calendar, on the day before Thanksgiving. There's no recording of the meeting or notes, but I suspect that was the layoff announcement, done when most people were already out of the office.

retoor20813dI've worked for a company that hired people the day before bankruptcy announcement. They just kept the normal flow going to not look suspicious. Very sick huh.

@retoor That's kinda like America right now. We're pretty much in the middle of an economic collapse and everyone is just chugging along like nothing is happening.
There was a term for this during the collapse of the Soviet empire: Hypernormalization. -
retoor20812d@djsumdog my story is about ten years ago :P But yeah, it's all going wrong, everything in debt. They see debt as debet or something. I also doubt if Elon is the richest man, maybe he's the poorest man. It's all confusing.

WHEN YOU DON’T LISTEN TO THE PROGRAMMER...
The transition from developer to manager.
Last week a friend of mine asked if I was alright; learning there was a layoff at my company. There was a layoff at my company? I had to look it up and, sure enough, there were layoffs.
I thought maybe it was just drivers. Still, no official announcement, nothing in team meetings and I went back and saw nothing in my e-mails.
I grabbed a drink after work with one of my co-workers. He said, yes they were layoffs. They axed W--, one of our devs.
I had only worked with W-- a little, but she knew what she was doing and had been there a long time. She wasn't on our team though, and our team just hired two people in December!
What the hell? We're laying off while we're hiring developers? There's no public announcement so I had to find out from someone who doesn't even work here? What the hell?
