I'm curious, why do you guys seem to always put up with "I changed my mind, I need it by Friday" kind of requests? "I've pulled an all-nighter, because customer wanted it before the holidays" - didn't you agree to do it after the holidays? Did the customer come by with a bag of money for you to put away everything else for them? Even if you do get paid extra, do you really get that much more to make your suffering worth it?

Some people don't have the power to say no. I do not envy these people.

    Broken org culture, I think.

I used to work under strict 8-hours-per-day regime in the past and really wanted to keep it that way in my current job. Unfortunately, pretty much all of my colleagues do overtime a lot and when I tried to talk to them about that I usually heard that it's not my business. But it kinda is, because now other people indirectly expect me to do overtime too. Even though no one ever forced me, there is simply a social pressure. I resist it 98% of times, but man, it's hard.

I was working in a company where devs do work until they burn-out and have to take sick leave. I don't think I'll return there.

Happy customer be loyal customer, at least until their boss don't give them a raise so they leave and we still lose a contract because no one else on their side bothered to rtfm. (i.e.: Sysadmin. for Dummies)

@groenkek Do you really want a customer like that to stick with you?
