Have fun and remember put enough thermal paste between the socket and the CPU - the AMD stockholders will thank you.
-
@RedPolygon Neat... that seems pretty common with coolers these days, my last one was the same.
I guess a lot of people did take that advice of mine... -
@irene I'm probably gonna set it to white if possible, it was the best looking ram I could find 😅
-
@irene Yeah, I've seen that with a 3rd party cooler (Corsair) as well... It's a nice idea though, pretty convenient.
I guess there's still people out there who put thermal compound on the socket though. From what I've heard, it really helps the processor's speed as the pins are connected directly to each other instead of through the slow semiconductors above. Reliability on the other hand, may be less than optimal. -
@irene I wanted to buy an rx580 but it's almost 2x as expensive as an 1060-6gb here
-
@irene Dumb enough for me to stop believing in evolution. Something this dumb just couldn't have survived natural selection, but I actually once fixed a "h4xx0r"'s PC who read this on a forum and did it without thinking about how electricity works.
-
@irene I still think these suit my style more, more modern.
Now that I look at it, rx prices have fallen to around 1060 level lol
Edit: I can't attach the image -
@Jilano Or one guy who told me that there's a free energy device on the market - I just should order that and put it into the PC instead of a PSU (Keshe Foundation, google if you want a good laugh. It's abusing the name of the guy who brought the nuke to Iran iirc).
Needless to say, even I have some dignity. If he wants to get scammed, he can go and get scammed himself.
@irene: Well... I guess you're right. In the end, they'll switch off the free market (the last bit of natural selection that you can't regulate away), retry communism, fail, die and we can restart. In the long run, natural selection will prevail. Kinda reminds me of Ragnarok. -
@devTea no. Anything goes better with rtx2080 ti. I run rtx2070 with ryzen 7 2700. The gaming performance is slightly slower than i7 8700
-
@irene no. 590 and 580 are same chip, 590 is just a factory overclocked version. Well explained in gamers nexus’s graphic card tear down video
-
Yes guys, putting the thermal paste in the socket does make your professor faster! Trust me, I'm a doctor. While you're at it, you might as well spread it all over your GPU and RAM as well! Also make sure you REALLY get it in the PCI-E slot you're using.
-
@infernalempress And don't forget to put some chewing gum on your fans, for the extra cold breeze!
-
@irene you are right last time. The amd factory cooler is much louder than noctus. Not because bad quality, but high rpm
-
Spray some motorcycle brake cleaner all over the motherboard too, while you're at it.
-
@infernalempress factory has preapplied paste. But it’s fine. Never apply thermal paste before remove it. And some silver paste, liquid metal are not safe. Dont be that Verge guy.
-
@echonox Like I said - you can put 2 140mm fans on a large water cooler's radiator vs. 1x80mm on a regular CPU cooler.
In the end, the only thing you do is move the air cooling from the CPU to somewhere else where you have more space for fans. That's all that water cooling does.
Why you'd want that? Overclocking.
@irene with 140mm ones? Never seen one of those. -
@sunfishcc yeah I came across this one in reviews when building my pc, but sadly wasn't available in my country and re-shipping was too expensive
-
@ilPinguino compatible with mid tower, but only fit with low profile ram. Lifetime warranty with free mounting kits upgrades. These fans are 30usd each, so the cooler is basically free. They also got 120mm am4
-
@infernalempress @echonox no. Search Noctua am4 on Amazon.com, you should see this baby 👍
-
@sunfishcc Oh, I'm used to seeing people with the 212 EVO, and it looked fairly similar to me at first glance
-
-
@JSn1nj4 I'm pretty happy with my monitor right now, to the point where I would be envious to myself
-
@RedPolygon maybe it's just my laptop then. It's not the highest-end one. It looks nice on the surface, but it's definitely lacking in proper color and decent graphics. Just has an i7 and at least allowed expansion to 16 GB of RAM. Definitely needs better graphics and color though.

autlos126y@irene more or less the same for me. I had a 1050Ti that I bought at a decent price (150€), then it stopped working and the price went up to 200€, so I bought a RX560 at 140 and a few weeks ago upgraded to a RX580. Between the RX560 and the RX580 I tried a 1060 6Gb which didn't even work out of the box.
Oh, I didn't mentiont both my NVIDIAs were ZOTAC. So unlucky, I'll never buy that brand again. -
autlos126y@irene RX580 is a bit more powerful than the 1060, but less power efficient and much bigger in size (I value this things). However, I've never had a problem with AMD in years, and today the price difference makes no sense to go for NVIDIA.
Besides, I do some image processing with Matlab and having an NVIDIA makes thinks so much faster.
So, I prefer NVIDIA but I will always be an AMD guy. -
@irene I'm also going to do a custom build and with the same components it would cost about 1.5 or 2k USD here is PAK.
-
@irene yeah that's what I was talking about and due to the raised dollar prices it would cost about 2k USD to me
-
@AhmadIshaq @irene
It was €1280 + €470 for my monitor
EDIT: So that makes around 1500 USD for the computer
