@abdulmoniem what programming, I am fine with a $200 machine doing web dev, you gotta be more specific
-
-
@abdulmoniem what languages, what environment/IDE, what OS, you're still describing a $200 machine.
-
@abdulmoniem yeah windows is what cracks the bank, sadly don't know any suggestion then, though with a $1000 budget it shouldn't be hard to just configure a laptop or find it by specs.
-
wowotek58276y@abdulmoniem personally, i will buy all ThinkPad model if i could. Pick any model which contain your required hardware. Give margin of error about 5-7% either on specs or budget. Guaranteed to be happy.
-
@abdulmoniem I meant Linux as an alternative, which is lightweight and runs on cheaper low-power hardware.
-
@wowotek not the new ones though, those are known to be trash and abuse of brand image.
-
Redders9576yUsed or reconditioned you can get a lot more bang for your buck, I've got a Dell workstation laptop with quad core i7 processor, 32 GB ram, 500 GB SD and some dedicated graphics card, all in it was under £500, it is a beast, and runs anything I need it to on Ubuntu (k8s is probably what's pushing it the most)
-
ddephor45116yLenovo Thinkpad T580 should be at the upper level of your budget.
Some Dell Latitude also, depending on the desired configuration
I would not recommend Ideapads, the keyboards are rubbish -
@electrineer Another option but the problem of losing power on the main rig .. or something caused the internet not to work .. then connecting remotely is not an option.
-
lxmcf204106yJust throwing it out there, but have a look at some x86 based chromebooks, can pick them up relatively cheap and then just put it in dev mode and install a linux distro
-
lxmcf204106y@abdulmoniem Oh ok, sorry about that, not sure about installing windows on chromebooks unfortunately
-
@lxmcf I want to understand something about chromebooks .. how it differs from normal laptops?
-
@abdulmoniem you only use the web browser and the keyboard layout is fucked up. Otherwise they are cheap devices with great battery life. You can also probably install any linux distro but there is also GalliumOS which is designed for chromebooks.
Chromebook is not a good option if you have unreliable network. -
620hun83706yI’d get a thin and light. My desktop (Windows) is a genuine tank, so I got a Dell XPS 13 (Kubuntu) and I couldn’t be happier with it. I can take it anywhere, its battery lasts forever and it looks sexy as fuck without the bezels. Yeah, expensive, but it’s a rock solid build. My previous laptop was a Lenovo Y510p, and the Dell is objectivity a better portable device.
I also hear great things about the Surface Laptop 2. -
Redders9576y@abdulmoniem workstation laptop, Dell precision, it's a beast (about 3* thicker than my MacBook Pro), but if you're always going to use it at a desk, it's great
-
@ThomasRedstone aha .. in my case I need something which I will carry a lot from place to place.
-
620hun83706y@abdulmoniem that’s insane. Then it’s difficult to tell what to get because I can only think in terms of British or American prices.
-
Redders9576y@abdulmoniem fair enough, some good deals can be had in much more compact machines too, you just won't get desktop performance without spending a fortune
-
Basically on that price range you should be able to get a core i5 with 8g RAM 256g SSD and full HD Display. A cheap solution is an HP 250 G6 or for a better quality I would go for Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro. Great build quality and Mac "inspired" design.
I need to get a laptop .. my machine is PC and that's because I couldn't find the same specs on a good laptop.
Now, I need it for mobility. Any suggestions?
Budget: $500 to $1000
