-vim-31686yI can’t imagine someone using an iOs to do serious, work. I had to do that for a year, and I wanted to murder everyone at Apple more than once a day.
-
just had the situation where a fellow designer asked "hey heni what's your experience with your ipad pro 12" ?"
"it's excellent for reading books, watching netflix, creating visual concepts and it's a good addition to a macbook."
colleague "But I want it to be my replacement for my old macbook"
" i don't think that you as a design professional will be happy with the limitations ios has."
colleague "but but but i want one so bad but it's so expensive"
"fine 🙄"
why even bother to ask me 😄
If you work remotly the 12" Ipad is an excellent second screen for your macbook with www.lunadisplay.com -
I can actually imagine that it can replace a computer for Photoshop powerusers next year, but development... No

They tell whatever the fuck they want. That's their opinion. Everyone has different options. Deal with it.

Brolls31556y@Jilano apple doesn’t actually sponsor YouTubers or provide free products for review.
It’s all them, admittedly the tax deductible status of the things they buy helps 😂
In all seriousness these reviews are a good sign, the hardware is seriously impressive, and now it’s just showing where iOS is creaking for such hardware.
It won’t be long until apple make their move for iPad and MacBook and start merging. -
Brolls31556y@Observable I don’t think they will. They’ve always said they want to maintain separate systems, but they do have a number of patents for laptop form factors that a tablet slides into.
Maybe we’ll get iPads running OS X, but they switch the experience based on context, which would be pretty cool.
Ive bounced back and forth for monetary reasons, but I’ve never not owned an iPhone smartphone (last old school phone was a Sony Ericsson), and I would always choose a Mac computer and OS X over windows any day. -
@lxmcf I found JerryRigEverything's video on the iPad Pro, and a few days later the Surface Pro 6 to be an actual representation of the devices. The iPad is, as he accurately put it, "a phone but in tablet form" while the Surface is "a full PC, but in tablet form". This is evident even in the hardware, where Apple has no internal braces or anything to reinforce the iPad (meaning it bends quite easily around the two weak points in the center) while MS has heat pipes, the kickstand, and a bunch of other reinforcement points in the chassis, as well as not putting holes in key weak areas (as any smart designer would do)
But yes, people are showing off the iPad Pro as if it can actually do all the things an actual computer can. It still runs iOS, and the last time I checked, iOS was a mobile OS that doesn't have split screen or multi-window, a file manager for files on the local device, support for keyboard/mouse, or even proper USB-OTG support (you have to buy a special USB with an app). -
rithvikp2856yJonathan Morrison is an Apple fanboy. And a pretty hardcore one at that. Not long ago, he made a video on the old Mac mini, the one from 2014, and tried to justify why it is still a good decision to buy one :P

taglia5716y@heyheni I've already thought to turn my iPad (which I don't use a lot anymore) into an extension of my macbook. A coworker suggested using an app, Duet display (or similars, like iDisplay or AirDisplay).
They are way cheaper than the hardware solution (which I also saw). Did you tried them? How is your impression on the Luna? -
@taglia just google reviews of duet and you'll see it's not that good.
Luna Display usb dongle costs $30 more and it's worth it. -
lxmcf204106y@mundo03 you know what with the state android is on NOW and with its windows flag enabled, I would say yes a premium android tablet could replace a laptop
Dear tech YouTubers, fucking stop trying to justify the iPad pro as an actual pro device that can replace a laptop for everyone...
Yes you can make music, yes you can draw and yes you can watch content...
Can you have multiple windows?
Can you write code and natively compile?
Can I use a mouse?
Can I power multiple displays with seperate apps?
Yes it's powerful but it's still an iPad, just because you made a bigger screenee phone doesn't mean you can claim it as a full PC replacement... Cunts -,-
(Would like to point this out mostly to Johnathan Morrison for that video showing off a single person using the iPad for a singular purpose, pissed me off more than anything!)
