    I mean, have you seen the (quantum?) computers that are literally a single wafer? Granted, their climate control is currently larger than a full-height server rack, but stuff like that is not far off.

    Probably not. Like how ARM is more efficient than x86/AMD64, so that it can be put in a smaller form factor. The datacenters don't shrink, companies just order more of them to fit in their existing datacenter infrastructure.

    Mobile technology however, that's where size is at a premium and smaller dies will make for more advanced and smaller gadgets like smartwatches. Who knows? Maybe one day we'll be able to put a modern phone into our glasses, or a Spotify streaming service into a pair of earbuds.

    @Condor You could make the same argument about mobile technology that you made about data centers. Sure, it's great to have more compact technology, but we also have to balance it for an increase in demand for computing power on the client-side.
