Targeted ads > random ads
People hate to admit it, but it's true. At least the shit you're getting is relevant to you.
(If anyone starts lecturing me on privacy, you're getting ignored. I don't care.)
Edit: AdBlock is the true answer though lol -
@Stuxnet the thing is the account I use on my phone has no dev related stuff in it, I make sure to not view stuff like it there because it's my entertainment account and I just want entertaining content suggested.
So the suggestion is completely unrelated to the account recent history or search history. -
@AleCx04 EXACTLY. Without targeted ads, how would I know a milf wants me? Or that I shouldn't jerk off until I put this secret ingredient on my cock?
Targeted ads > -
@Stuxnet privacy aside, I disagree.
All of the targeted ads I've ever gotten were incapable of sensing a need fulfilled.
Bought shoes? Want more shoes? No I don't! Watched a tutorial on something, and now you know it? Want to watch "part 1 how to install and configure x library" type videos from 8 different people? No, I learned it, I installed it, I'm done!
A lot of targeted ads don't understand that just because I did it once, doesn't mean I want to again. Actually, because I did it once, I will therefore not do it again. -
@deadPix3l You sound like you've been on Amazon a lot lmao. That's exactly how it goes.
But all my experiences have ads that actually do show me relevant things. Soo 🤷🏻♂️ -
@Stuxnet fair enough. I disable most ads so to me "ads" are more accurately purchase or video recommendations. Two places where targeting is very hit or miss.
-
@deadPix3l The only place I get ads is Instagram and YouTube on my phone.
Instagram always has ads that actually are relevant. Found a shirt I liked off an Instagram ad
YouTube ads are just handicapped asf
Edit: I can't type lol -
Condor324966y@Stuxnet ad targeting is a great thing, especially when there's good advertisers that actually have me in their demographic. Like CircleCI's ad on YouTube.. I loved it. Now it's been some stupid wanketeer for a while, and I seriously want to shoot that stupid piece of shit right in the dick. So annoying! So, targeted ads.. when they work, they're great. But when they don't.. they really suck, considering that the data collection still goes on. And in my case they actually more often than not don't match my interests at all.
-
@Condor I would honestly love target ads if instead of collection I could just TELL them what ads I would care about. If I could write my profile instead of being spied on, I would be so down.
-
Condor324966y@deadPix3l same here.. but that doesn't allow the wanketeers to sell everything we stand for, right?
-
@irene wait...so...are you telling me that there are no hot milfs in my area that want to play with my peepee? :(
-
Condor324966y@irene is anyone going to care about the vessel that I move in? No, but the information is apparently invaluable. Not sure why either.. I'm sure that the wanketeers know more about that.
-
mundo0349796y@JKyll oogle comunicates with amazon, facebook, yahoo, appnexus, and about 30 others.
They identify you y your behavior and anything you login to, so .. when 1 of them identify you they tell eachother so you get targeted ads.
google fingerprinting, we are all screwed. -
Condor324966y@irene by the "vessel" I mean my body.. nobody cares about that. Nobody cares about the average young man I am. Despite what the feminists say, my information - my merit - does however count. That's what makes information so valuable. It's our very identity.

hitko31486yUnless you're using some serious anonymizing proxy, they could see someone at your IP is interested in AI / ML, and link that to recent sessions from the same origin. And by looking into NAT algorithms, they could make further assumptions about which device within your network the request came from, based on origin port numbers.
-
@JKyll That's why. I noticed it when I started getting weirder suggestions in YouTube and even more weird Adsense Ads, when I shared my WiFi with some folks.
