human2308y@jacobg213 I know. It's sad however, that in this technological age, schools are still putting such little emphasis on computer science.
-
iAmNaN71318yThe issue is that IT graduates don't go into teaching, because they can make more elsewhere. Most teachers teach from a lesson plan, and only know enough to teach what that plan says, which usually isn't much.
-
human2308y@xinuxunil Especially since most of them specialize in other subjects. Mine is a physics teacher. It's sad that those teachers don't have the motivation to expand their knowledge.
-
mossad468yit's okey if people don't no things, it's not mandatory to know everything. he might know lot of things that we don't know, for example how to excite a boy with knowledge, how to teach when someone is constantly failing.
-
spl020438yIf they started teaching me how to use GIT in a computer science class, I'd be disappointed.
Dont they teach you bits and bytes and algorithms and hardware and things like that? -
duck1123298yWhy waste your time with pointless things like git? We've got sorting algorithms to implement.

jebediah2458yi have plans to go and teach in high school when i finish my degree, i'll be working way under my skill, but it'll be something i truly love
edit: this was meant as a reply, can't remember to whom, i'm drunk -
duck1123298y@jebediah drunk, can't remember names. You've got all the makings of a teacher about you.
-
anshulc95708yThis is relatively common. Since teachers only barely care about what's in syllabus. And hardly ever feel like expanding their knowledge. They have become stagnant, and I am talking about college professors here.

Cube18929308y@Cube189 Not to mention I had to copy and place a 20x20px bitmap by hand as many times as needed to cover the canvas in Paint as part of a test once...

Cube18929308y@Cube189 When I used CSS to make a website for an assignment I was accused of cheating.

My high school computer science teacher is probably one of the smartest guys I've ever seen (he teaches computer science and Calculus, and also did most of the software related things for the school). I think he knows more than my prof at university...
-
@Cube189 my web design class doesn't let you use CSS until the last month of the course. JavaScript? Nope. that's "advanced". That's why i'm taking AP Computer Science.
-
@Cube189 Yeah, I asked him why he doesn't work for some company where he'll get far more money. He said he loves teaching ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
human2308y@poster983 Part of my Communications Technology course was web design. I built a responsive portfolio from scratch, whereas everyone else had their websites look like they were made in the '90s. I got 92 on my final because the teacher "didn't understand the advanced JavaScript".
-
@drdb I had to take computer apps course (learning how to type and use a mouse) before I could take any other computer class. I got an 80 on my final word project, because I didn't use the font he wanted me to use. I had to use comic sans. UGGG.

It's worse when the teacher knows Git, but insists on using Dropbox because it's easier and faster. 😐
