Those of you with an app or productivity web service, do you charge monthly? If so, why? I understand if it is your primary source of income, but do you have ethical or integrity reasons related to price? I've been contemplating this lately and I'd like more Dev input.

    Monthly charges like for a normal service contract? :o

    @ynnk I'm thinking more like "premium" subscriptions. So like Todoist for example, that has "extra" (arguably basic...) features like reminders, themes, tags, etc. for a monthly subscription of 3-7 dollars.

    I have none tbh, but from what I've seen it depends on your product and business plan, including the calculations for projected growth, expenses and bottom line.

    @musiceas66 I’m not sure what your service does, but if you can market it as free without group permissions and controls (for regular users) and have a paid version for teams/businesses/companies that bring granular group-based permissions back into the service that would be a good way to charge for it; only to entities that are likely going to be using it for making themselves money or business/team related uses. Add 0auth or MFA or SSO to the service and then you can easily justify charging more for it as an enterprise ready service.

    @TerraNimbus-io thanks! Great suggestion. This is way better than the ever popular basic, premium, Enterprise payment levels I've seen. I would never want to limit my most basic users from features they'll likely use (like reminders in a todo app), because for a lot of these apps and services, I myself am a basic user. Once I get more cash flow in my life, I plan to donate to all the companies I use who are this generous. From my experience with apps, being kind and generous pays off.
