There used to be an article on /. every 3 months about a major breakthrough in energy storage / density.

Yet somehow the new tech still fails to show up in consumer devices so it's 2018 and phones last for a day or two, laptops for a fraction of a day.

Thanks for the tips. I'm building a safety box to charge outside with a extinguisher close by, since I now have 13 salvaged batteries and hope to get more.

@GyroGearloose: Depends on the exact cell type. Check for any markings on the cells and if you can find a datasheet to get your charging parameters.
