crisz82366yBy the way, maybe google doesn't utilize a plain ranking system with stars + downloads.
Maybe they use an exponential moving average (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...) to get to know the most interesting app in a limited period of time -
on appstore, YT music is topping in pretty much every EU country too.
promoting aside, they must be using some kind of moving average algorithm too, otherwise new app would never pass a minimum visibility threshold, which is quite an interest as well for apple/google -

I personally wouldn't, but I understand what you mean. Probuably a decision of some upper management cunt who will do anything for that 0.001% increase in profit. -
TheOct039316yPlus, non-premium YT Music has way less features than Spotify... You can't even play music without the app in foreground '-'
I can't wait to see those billion displayed downloads when YT Music gets packed with Android distros. That's gonna have a Microsoft Edge / IE taste ^^' -
browny991756yI actually have Youtube Premium and got the app but it's complete bullshit...
Audio quality aside they always recommend the same songs instead of showing me some new ones, and "Topics" (auto-generated artists) show up in my regular Youtube subscribtions which is not desirable...
I just hate that app... Will probably keep buying music and listening to it with winamp/black player ex... -
The open source app NewPipe already has most of these features, without using Google Services
-
@browny99 Have a look at Autobeat player. I know it wasn't updated for some time (but Winamp wasn't either) but it is amazing for connecting local music and YouTube!

You wish they sorted using some basic algorithm, They have lots of data to determine which app actually performs better.

Maybe you have heard about YouTube Music...
In the Google Play Store it's the number 1 music App, Spotify behind it.
So I took a look at the stats:
YouTube Music:
- 50 Million Downloads
- 4.3 stars rating
Spotify:
- 100 Million Downloads
- 4.5 stars rating
Now change my mind:
Google promotes their products by just placing them on top of everything.
