Going to Jump head-on, without a helmet to Linux.
Starting with Linux Mint because I'm a complete noob.
Starting with a Boot from a 64Gb Usb3 very expensive drive.
If I like it... then moving permanently next week.
I'll tell how this noob goes :p

    @RantSomeWhere I have a very large Penis and lots of loob...

    But I'll let it slide this time...

    @RantSomeWhere After eight years of linuxing I don't favour arch ;)
  • 0
    @RantSomeWhere That's a good final objective...

    Till then I need to fuck some distros before...
  • 0
    Starting to need a 3rd screen

    but can't figure out the 3rd port... Why two connectors so similar but that won't feet?
  • 1
    @RantSomeWhere Yup! And still love it :)

    Restarting to linux Soon, wish me luck.

    Btw, if this works, is it easy to clone the distro from the USB to the SSD? like without limmiting the SSD size
  • 1
    Yeah, you can dd your install if the ssd is bigger in capacity
  • 1
    @RantSomeWhere
    Sorry, but Arch is not a real distro.
    And I have uaed Linux since 2001
  • 0
    Failed... changed boot to USB, YUMI didn't do it's work... or maby I forgot anything?

    Still booting to windows

    @RantSomeWhere
    "Arch is a testing distro, and should not be relied on as a daily driver"
    Quote from the lead dev of Arch Linux Aron.

    As long as you are prepare to break the standard of Linux, deal with bullshittery and spend alot of time - then Arch is for you

    @RantSomeWhere
    "Not a real distro" - No I am obviously joking :) 90% of the Arch userbase is assholes so I am an asshole to them :p

    Servers - Debian
    Desktop - Trisquel
  • 0
    @RantSomeWhere
    Well, you are the 10% :)
  • 0
    Second Attempt, UUI only this time + mint
  • 6
    @Linux Did you said Trisquel ?
  • 2
    5ft time the charm. Had to change close to 10 options on the boot to run the os from the USB drive, but I got them all...
    Seams like the builder didn't want normal users to install anything else then windows.

    @Maartz
    It is actually a really good distro, the stable I have ever used
  • 2
    @Linux I’ve never give it a try.
    I will ! Thanks ;)
    I work on Fedora and CentOS at work, I like these distros.
  • 2
    And then I tought.... Fuck windows, click install
  • 0
    @GyroGearloose every time a user delete windows from his desktop, a BSOD appends.
  • 1
    @Maartz No BSOD yet...

    but I had to change like 6 or 7 settings to allow to use any UEFI other than windows...

    Recreating the USB again, last time my 64GB USB got to 2GB... didnt like that
  • 1
    @Maartz
    Trisquel is based on Ubuntu thou, but you could always install the linux-libre kernel :)
  • 1
    I realized my mistake, now lets restart again.

    Wish me luck
  • 1
    didnt change anything in the boot and can't restart to linux again...

    Didn't want to do a DVD-Rom instalation... but...

    Fuck it, Youtube, Install linux mint :p
  • 2
    I won't quit... I know IIt's possible, I won't stop till I get fucking Linux in my system.
  • 0
    @GyroGearloose While Rufus (probably the tool I should had using in the beguinning) Is taking to hours to check and Install , I'll just code a little
  • 2
    @stupidcats
    Stable as fuck, wide support :)
  • 3
    Interesting seeing the free vs non free debate on here.

    @Linux Debian is very good as a server os. I use CentOS because I like RedHat's integration with Java and Oracle.

    Manjaro i3 is my daily driver but I would either go pure Debian or Fedora if I were to leave that ecosystem.

    @starrynights89
    CentOS is great! 7 years support is awesome
  • 1
    @Linux Support is solid but my biggest gripe is how old many of the packages are. I don't do any real programming with php but I would go to Debian just to get support for php 7. CentOS is stuck on php 5 for god knows how long.
  • 2
    @starrynights89
    Debian 9 has 7.0 currently.
    But I get 7.2 from surys repo, he does it well :)
  • 1
    @Linux I should do a new Debian LAMP stack alongside my CentOS LAMP stack and do parallel dev work on both. :)
  • 2
    Try out Fedora while you're at it, it's my choice of distro. Similar to Ubuntu/Mint
  • 1
    ++ for not starting with ubuntu
  • 2
    Once you go Linux you never go back...

    Except when your job drags you back to Windows kicking and screaming.
  • 2
    Hey, the simplest way is using lili (linux live usb creator? Sth like that) on windows.
  • 1
    I went to Ubuntu 4+ years ago, no regrets
  • 2
    tfw a linux os thread got posted a few hours ago
  • 0
    Fucking Linux.
    Not installed yet.
    Finally found out why it stops installing... Can't mount the /caw... Fuck just gonna burn a instalation DVD as a should from the start.
  • 0
    It's Aliveeee
  • 0
    Btw mint is Debian based or Ubuntu?
  • 0
    And... This happens
  • 1
    Welcome to linux @GyroGearloose
  • 1
    @GyroGearloose honestly just install as normal, and then make a super grub2 rescue disk. It's a good thing to keep around anyways. Welcome to Linux, shit breaks, good luck!

    Laptop for dev: Arch
    Desktop for dev and gaming: Arch
    Server: Arch

    Am I doing something wrong?
    Definitely not.
