@kgbemployee well... Docker for Linux does use a VM...
but running a seperate Linux VM on my PC isn't gonna cut it (it would slow me down SOOO MUUCH) and dual-booting would make switch between "working" and "relaxing" a huge pain. -
@FinlayDaG33k Docker doesn't use a VM. A VM virtualizes on hardware level. Docker virtualizes on the OS level. Which makes it faster, but also less secure and is the reason why Docker on Windows is so different from Docker on Linux.

I meant that Docker for Windows uses a VM (docker on Linux runs natively). -
@wowotek hyper-v doesn't run on Linux.
Hyper-V is to Windows what KVM is to Linux
