How long do my fellow devRanters spend per day coding? I will spend about 10 hours per day 6/7 days per week.

I ask this because I'm wondering if I need to re-balance my life choices. I took a whole day off
over the weekend and ended up feeling more rejuvenated coming back to my code this Monday.

It's definitely good to give yourself some breaks. Do you take regular breaks throughout the day? Sometimes going to the park/for a walk etc really does help with productivity, helps you think outside the box or stop approaching a problem in a specific way and try another better way

I only code while I'm at work. Not because I don't love it, but because I want to avoid burnout. My evenings are for family and gaming.

    I coded for 6 a 7 days for 8 to 10 hours.

But I burned out and if I can work for 2 hours a day its a good day at the moment.

@MisterArie Yeah, I'm feeling like I'm at the cusp of my own minor burn out.

@starrynights89 sounds like its time to take some rest, I was to late.

And it's really hard getting back on my feet. But slowly getting there.

Code during work hours, evenings are reserved for my girlfriend. Weekends are for personal projects and getting drunk.

I can relate to you guys. In the beginning of my work career I was coding day (at work) and night (at home), but fortunately my girlfriend at that time (and now my wife) helped me to get a better social life (but I am still bad at it). I then started to code in the office alone. And today I am very limited because of my position.

@2erXre5 I went through something very similar when I was getting burnout from C++ games programming. Every time I wanted to do a project I could get it finished in 2-3 months but the end product was so amateurish I would get extremely depressed after the fact, which made programming not a lot of fun.

So I ended up switching gears and going into back end development and I have my motivation back for work and my personal projects. But as I posted in the OP, I may be overdoing it a bit.

@Jakuho The longest streak I've done was 14. Don't know how you could manage 24. O_O

Currently unemployed so I'm mostly spending my time on personal side projects these days. As for the time I spend on them daily? 3 hours at best. Most of the recurring daily schedule is taken by showering (one hour to get off all the shmoo that my skin produced during the night without fracturing its oh so delicate fucking shitty self - if only I could replace it with Kevlar!!!) and then cooling down because my itching receptacles are hypersensitive to heat, especially in heatwaves like this one, which takes another hour. Then comes getting dressed and breakfasting, another hour. Checking devRant during the cooldown period, well that's paralleled so no extra. Then comes education time, multiple hours a day. And then comes side projects which I work on every now and then. Such as the fan, Dremel and pokey bit receptacle & interface thing for my lab power supply that I did earlier today/yesterday.. and destroyed the alligator clips that I just attached for by doing some shits and giggles in graphite experiments. That shit gets hot man! It was able to completely destroy those clips, melt steel and require me to solder on a new set of alligator clips tomorrow.
