tokumei21316yI totally get where you're coming from, I despise web (and cloud to some extent) very much. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of advice for searching for such jobs in software, but I do know they exist (example: a local company, Tradebot, has developers who implement trading schemes in software). Just keep looking, I guarantee there's something out there for you!

scorpius126yMore money in mobile market these days anyway. It's a good start and it will give you better foundations for software engineering than web development.

scorpius126y@CaramelBear honestly haven't tried it, my mobile development experience is limited to mostly native stuff like ObjectiveC and Java. If you want to dig into memory management, and other grinds and gears of devices you build apps for I'd recommend you at least try native languages instead of out of the box frameworks. Depends on your priorities and where you'd like to see yourself in a few years. Sorry for the late reply.

Hey all! I'm gonna be graduating soon from grad school and I'm starting to realize that I have no idea what I wanna do with my programming career!
I currently work as QA but have been really working towards being a programmer but the only problem is that I really dislike web applications ... specifically front end.
With most jobs being full stack web apps, I feel like I'm really gonna be limiting myself once I'm applying for junior software engineering jobs.
I'm just wanting your thoughts and some advice on what I should do since in still trying to figure things out. The only goal I have in life for my career at the moment is to be a software engineer.
