make something that you would use, or that fixes a problem you have. Here's what I've been working on... github.com/Thomas101/wmail

I agree with @thomas101 what would you like improved? How can you help people? What are people doing manually that can be bettered in digital format or automated? There are so many opportunities. Look and ye shall find. Let us know what you think of.

I just spun up a vagrant box to build a WordPress plugin that generates shortcodes that output calls to foaas.com, because this doesn't exist yet. projects don't have to have a very good point 😊

My undergrad is in math, so I mainly focus on crunching numbers.
Right now I've written a pretty little program of 109 lines of code that generates probable large primes, saves them to a file, and does it in a way that won't kill my computer.
Even if it is something someone has done, I'd suggest still doing it. Maybe you can do it better (at least in an aspect).. and/or find out if it is open source, and try to become a contributor. -
SwiftiOS8629yI keep a list in Notes (yes I use Apple Notes, go to hell everyone) of new ideas as they come to me.
I'm an idiot, so I know that if I don't, I'll blank and feel terrible about myself when I want to start something. This way, I can just pull from the list... Or sometimes, the list itself inspires a new idea. -
I think the suggestions so far have been good. The one thing I'd consider is if you're in a slump, try to start with a project that's on the small side so you can make sure you are able to finish it off. That always feels good.

trogus133389yStart with a problem to solve, especially one lots of people care a lot about. Digging through complaint data can tell you where active pain points exist. I bet there's a startup or two lying behind some rants here ;)

@SwiftiOS - yeah. I jot them down or have Siri voice note them as soon as I get new ideas. Even in the middle of the night. Amazing how fast they disappear if they are not captured.
How do you all figure out what personal projects to work on? I'm in a slump thinking of ideas..
