Well, at least isolate the out-pins or be very aware of where you place that circuit...
Place it on a good conducter. Thrust me, it will be faster! -
What are the differences in the newer ESP models? I myself happen to own the very first version

mk3d34837y@VikiMaster2 esp-01 has 2 io, esp-12 more, and esp-14 has a builtin SM8 microcontroller. Esp-01 and esp-12 is good, regarding the project nature. -
resdac8617yI did my esp12e the same way. Then i bought more and more, and decided i needed a universal fast approach. So i made a arduino to esp program board. Works like a charm -
LuxARTS15897yWait, ESP14? I didn't know that it exists. What's are the differences between this and ESP12F?
Also, I made my own PCB adapter. Pretty, easy and cheap. -
LuxARTS15897yI read that ESP14 has a STM8 MCU but I can't imagine a real situation where this could be useful. Generally I use the ESP8266 MCU and if it's not enough (I mean in memory/course speed) I use another MCU (usually a STM32 because they are small, powerful, cheap and has low energy consumption). Of course programming it in TrueSTUDIO. I hate Arduino in this things
