    Yes but the career path after about 5 years may become limited. There is a problem in our industry regarding career paths. You are expected to become an architect or manager, dumb I know but the industry is broken. If you don't meet the criteria or don't prefer that path I recommend going it alone or with a group of like minded individuals. Start planning now. It takes longer than you think.

    I quit uni and got a great job within 2 weeks so yes you can but you need to be able to show your skills through other means such as personal projects

    EDIT: don’t expect to find a job as quickly as I did, a friend of mine spent 6 months looking for a job and ended up with a crappy one.. it depends on your skills as a developer

    @brano88

    Where I worked previously, the same was apparent. The lead Dev was self taught, but his knowledge on, well every language the company worked in, was insane.

    I join the self taught wagon.

    Having personal projects even dummy websites for all recruiters care will show your skills and ability when starting out.

    One of the biggest problems with this industry is recruiters see the front end, so put some effort in your front end designs and familiarise yourself with UX principles.

    Outside of that, it’s purely up to you and the business’s you apply for as to how far you can go.

    I’m at 13 years and still going without the papers, I currently work for one of Australia’s major retailers, and almost everyone around me has a degree, so no you don’t need it, but it takes a lot of the right choices and determination to make it without one in the early days.
