    I don't understand why you're complaining.

@linuswillner well it's not as bad as PC, I'm on Xbox and as far as I know there aren't any PC style asset flips on there like there are on ps

@zlice While it is DRM, and I dislike DRM by it's very definition, it's the best DRM in existence.

You buy content, and you can use it whenever, wherever, no questions asked, no ID required. Share it with family? Sure! It doesn't require you to be online, have a CD in the drive, does not slow down your computer, ruin the sound, .... it has no side effects other than requiring the client.

Also, content purchased through them works. If it doesn't, you get a refund -- again with no questions asked. Definitely not that way with other forms of DRM, or with shoddy clones like Origin.

It has a built in mod manager that's (mostly) decent. It also has built in cloud saves with multiple devices in mind, and a community market so you can buy/sell crap to/from other players.

It has a very fast CDN so you don't have to wait days every time you decide to play Vampire: The Masquerade again.

Steam isn't flawless by any stretch. The search has been broken for years, support times are measured in weeks (and months to years for developers/affiliates), the backend is a bloody nightmare to work with, etc.

    But from a customer's perspective?
    Best DRM. ever.

@zlice You have a point with the enforced updates. That really angers me, and the workarounds suck (e.g. making backups and tricking Steam).

The rest of your complaints are about things I've never experienced. I have had zero issues with double charges nor offline mode breaking. And refunds after a year? Nobody in their right mind would issue that refund. Especially a reseller.

Just because you run into issues doesn't mean something is a "turd." It is far and above the best in the world. (It is still DRM, however.)

@zlice 10% critical failure chance still isn't that bad. 😋

Steam is trying to be the Amazon of video games. (I'm referring primarily to Amazon's Kindle ecosystem for this comparison.) They don't appear to be as dedicated to perfecting their recommendation system to hide the junk (or, more politely, highlight the hidden gems), and they don't want to even try to do any actual citation beyond the bare minimum, which will bite them eventually, even if there is little commercial incentive for them to do so. Eventually some major government will legally require them to do the thing they claim they have no interest in doing, since they have accepted some responsibility for everything they agree to sell, even if they don't see it that way.
