- Its a text messaging app with all the useful features removed
- Its a camera app that deletes all the photos you take with it
- Its a news app that only shows you clickbait

The ephemeral nature makes it a lot better than Facebook or Instagram for sharing moments of your life. The cancer of Facebook/Instagram are all the ppl forging their profiles and just showing off. Snapchat makes the exchanges a lot more human. Users share vastly more personal/funny/stupid things in that environment.
If you have friends that use it, give it a go, it's really an interesting experience if you, like op, don't understand it yet.

I'm not an active user myself anymore and last I heard they changed a lot about the app so YMMV.
