So today I had a client come in and give me a free "broken" laptop that wouldnt turn on and was covered in grease and what appeared to be dog hair everywhere. So i go through my every day troubleshooting, found the problem and fixed it. Next i disassemble the entire laptop and just start air dusting and cleaning connections like crazy. Now I'm a proud owner of a really old school laptop that I can probably keep alive for another 10 years :) This will be a perfect machine to test arch linux on 😃

@konicm8ker I've got one from like 2010 that I've got Mint on. Maybe I'll try some else soon.

@Stuxnet haha that's awesome. I also got one from 2010 too! Still kicking it was running linux mint for years until I installed elementary os last year on it.

@konicm8ker I'm probably going to try Elementary or Fedora next week.

@Stuxnet elementary is visually appealing, but you may not like the simplicity of you're a power user. I've had to hack my way through to the features I want. Still a great os though, I've never tried fedora.

@Stuxnet Elementary is so basic but its so pretty and fast and functional that I love using it

You description of its initial state make it sounds like this is a stolen laptop and your neighbour planted the crime evidence onto you.

@konicm8ker hahah I remember one guy with that problem..

people used to bring me broken laptops to fix but if I said it cant be fixed, they didn't want it back.

Sometimes by accident they just started work or once I removed the battery and had it directly on cord and it worked that way lol.

I still have a bunch of 2.5" turned-external hdds at my parents house lol

Toshiba sattelite, so many terrible memories. We had at least one a week when I worked in a computer shop.

@sylar182 that's odd. Aside from it getting a fuck ton of viruses while running win 7, mines been fine.
