Making your own cryptocurrency is fun, trust me I've had enough of it.

To understand the logic, just google "blockchain js".

After that it all depends on your imagination.

Centralized or not, creating peer network or a server, nodejs or even minimal TCP server with c++?

Even doing something like college project you can have a lot of fun, good luck ^_^
