    For gaming it's really nice but for development work you should really aim for an i7 / 16GB of RAM.
    It massively improves build/debug times.

    @kwilliams You are right, i'll probably get two DDR4 8GB RAM.. not sure about that i7 though.. lots of great reviews for i5-6600K

    Like I said the i5 6600K will be amazing for gaming, I have one in my gaming PC.
    That is because very few games are optimised for more than 4 cores, so for gaming there is little justification for the extra cost.

    For development though you really need those extra cores as you're running your apps/emulators at the same time as your debugging environment. If I planned to develop on my home PC I would have got an i7 also.

    @kwilliams cores = threads*

    Sufficient for VM El Capitan.

    @DevotedSniper I would argue that the i7 is more important. In the future he could upgrade his ram to 16gb because hes not building a laptop. It's better he gets a nice i7 first.

    I have 6700k i7, which is perfect for coding. Also, 16GB if possible is also must.

    Extra cores are very useful (essential!) if you use VMs. And I assume every dev uses them these days!
