olback109817yMYSQL or Postgresql? I feel like for pg is better if you have a huge amount of users. Could be wrong tho.

surgiie15297y@olback Either works. I'm not familiar with postgresql though. How's it compare to mysql?

olback109817y@surgiie I decided to go with MySQL since my current project does a lot of reading. Digital Ocean has a blog post about pros/cons with a few databases https://digitalocean.com/community/....

surgiie15297y@Floydian yeah see I've been sitting on the idea of making a new social media to compete against facebook for quite a while. I have not acted on this for this reason. Still trying to think of what/how this one will be unique that would attract other people to it. All I know at the moment is that a lot of people are starting to dislike facebook and only keep their accounts because they want to stay connected to family and friends which I think is what Facebook's original goal was, to keep people connected, but to answer your question, my business model is mostly in a brainstorming phase atm.:/

arijitsen157yThat's pretty good idea. If you are up for privacy may be you can implement it on a blockchain ecosystem with PGP encryption for the messaging system.
May be you can build it on I2P and sell it on Dark Web, Who knows.. :P -
Is it open source?? An open source social media platform. That's what we need. How about make it like gitlab where people can install it on premise for internal collaboration and sharing. And also have the public social media like Facebook?

One way in which something like this may be unique and entice users is to give them total control over their own information with respect to the site, as well as total transparency on how the site uses their data. For example, If someone uploads a picture that you are in, and you don’t want it there, or don’t want to be associated with whatever else is in that picture, it would be nice to either have the photo pulled, or have the platform blur you out and prevent anyone tagging you in it.
Social media that's doesn't misuse your private info like facebook. :p
