    Linux works in mysterious ways.

    Works until the next kernel update...

    That is good news. Enjoy it while it lasts. And when it stops working after the next update, remember these words:
    "Nvidia, fuck you!"
    - Linus Torvalds

    @Condor nvidia driver 387
    Cuda 9.1
    Nvidia 940 MX
    Intel i5 6gen (yeah it's slower than other models of relatively same or less price)
    8 GB ram
    And.... Ubuntu 16.04

    @grubbering great it works for you.
    However in my case I was installing some icpns and themes and in next reboot it suddenly started to work
    As soon as I installed cuda, the Nvidia settings now had less error messages.

    @VTCoder that's normal :) i had fan issues, it was never stopping, had to properly install drivers, and finally found nvidia's PPA, it helped a lot, you hsould add it just in case

    @grubbering you mean ppa: graphics-driver/ppa ?
  • 2
    @grubbering and shouldn't I must follow "if it works don't touch it rule"?
    Atleast in case of Nvidia?
    I want my system to reboot successfully next time.

    @VTCoder yup

    @grubbering added the ppa. Works without any problem 👍.
