Why the fuck contributing to opensource is so much pain. They get back to me after 8 months of my open PR. Sir, I don't remember a fucking thing I wrote...

Find projects that are active. My first pull request got looked at within the same day, a few changes were discussed and then merged in a matter of days. It depends on the project and how the people in charge handle PRs.

The project I tried to contribute to is a very active project on github. The very sad thing is that not a lot of people are using this feature, people tends to work around the bug instead of complaining. So the maintainers of the repo just forgot about my PR. Took them like 2 weeks to do review but they never came back to check until 8 months later. I addressed their comments, tagged their names, I rebased my code every day making sure things don't break for 3 months untill I gave up...

@lp150189 it's not worth it if they don't respect your efforts. Find a different project. There are projects that are very active and give proper feedback.
I remember my first PR, tge maintainer just said "it was wrong way to fix it" that was quite discouraging. I asked what was wrong - no reply. Then they went on to merge someone else's PR with a similar fix 😑
Nevertheless, I found out another project - maintainers there were super helpful, encouraging newbies and active on slack.
So yes it depends on the project and it's maintainers
