why would you change perfection? :D
I really like material design, but I wouldn't use it here. Devrant looks great. No need to make it into another MD starter kit lookalike. -
@kargaroth no need for an MD starters kit, but the design would look really good here, especially because it sticks out of the rest. And not really a good way 😅
-
@justinkruit i fully agree that all apps should follow the design guidelines of their respected platforms.
-
@nblackburn then all apps will look exactly the same. Where's the fun in that? I'm not talking about colors, but having exactly the same components and layouts in each is just boring. Just because MD looks good doesn't mean it has to be used everywhere
-
@kargaroth well, for Android 5 and above, material design is kinda loved. It gives the full feeling of the OS. And then again, material design has much options itself.
-
@kargaroth That's the point, if everything wildly varies like it it with android 2.3 (wasn't nice at all), it creates a inconsistent experience.

I am currently writing a native android appreciate for devrant (just for the sake of fun). My idea was to use a dark grey paired with red. What do you guys think? Other colour suggestions?
-
@SirWindfield dark-grey with red? Have you looked me up on the Play Store or something? That is the color palette I often use 😜
If any help is needed, you can say it 😉 -
@justinkruit nop. I just liked the combination. It is my first android app
So I am kinda figuring here and there stuff out. The code is probably ugly as hell and I have still some problems with creating the layout files (my UI doesn't look that good, but it comes close to the real app). Might even consider to completely implement a new design that may be nicer. Any help is appreciated ^^
Is it a good idea to use android annotations for a first project? I started without them but have to say that they make the code a lot more cleaner without those nested inner classes... -
Knossos5278yThe whole point of a unified design (and standards) for each platform is that every app is instantly understandable to everyone. If you have used the navigation start once or twice, the next time you will look for the hamburger in the top left and expect a drawer. You can still make your app individual and pretty within the Android design specs.

@dfox maybe a silly question, but some more material design in the android app of DevRant would be amazing. Big fan of the material design myself, so that's why :P
Maybe some stuff like proper elevation, the fab on the right, other drawer style, colored statusbar, and all that stuff. (if needed, I wouldn't mind to help 🙃)
