I'm about to change my setup to run pihole on this new RPi Zero W. Hopefully it has enough power to handle it.

It does. Someone I know it's running Pi Hole fine for several months now on a Raspberry Pi zero

@Ixquitilis I'm going to use it as a network ad blocker with pi-hole. I actually have a second one I'm going to use to turn an old antique radio into a streaming internet radio.

I run Pihole on my ZeroW with no issues. It has been running over WiFi (you don't need Ethernet) and powered by the USB port on my router.

It's been up for 7 months with zero downtime.

@intromatt dang just got mine set up. Uptime is about 10 minutes so far lol.

The software is absolutely bulletproof but I would suggest a quality card (2gb is fine). Happy ad blocking. @ryanmhoffman

Epic stuff! I've set mine up on a RPi3 via ethernet and powered by the router. No problems so far. I reccomend upload a shed load of blacklists when you can find them.
Next step for me is to look into a usb ethernet module to up the speed from 100 to 400mbs.
What upstream DNS are people using? I opted for both OpenDns and Google on IPv4 and IPv6, not knowing which would be best but so far so good.

@codingmonkey I'm using openDNS right now and so far it's been great.

Pihole does not benefit from a faster connection as it only feeds teeny tiny requests.. Wifi works just fine. @codingmonkey

@intromatt I hope to use DNScrypt and some VPN app in the near future, which would hopefully make use of the marginal speed boost.
I'm amazed the Pi doesn't come with a gigabit port and usb3 ports.

@ryanmhoffman I've seen people mention that the more you use it, the faster it becomes down to the cache on the Pi. It's a shame you can't download a pre-cache, unless I'm missing something.

Yep. And the USB and Ethernet share the same bus. If you're gonnaaaa run any decent amount of traffic through this thing then yes, getting a Pi3 and using Ethernet is your best bet.

Could you clarify what you mean by cache. We're you still referring to Pihole? @codingmonkey
