xroad23808yI think you'll be fine either way. The biggest bottleneck would be the hard drive but I think pretty much every machine nowadays is Flash/SSD anyway
-
AndreasDpp38yOkay, thanks.
Hard drive with 2tb fusion drive(124gb ssd) or 256 gb pure SSD
Its a i5, 4 cores 3.3 GHz
I7, 4 cores 4.0 GHz with hyperthreading -
hvidt3258yI'm going to build a hackintosh when it's time for an upgrade .. Mac prices are too damn high!
-
I'd recommend the pure SSD, worth the extra π 8GB RAM with i5 CPU will run just fine, but you won't regret upgrading those too, especially for Photoshop
-
xroad23808y@AndreasDpp for the HDD it depends on how you use it. You'll definitely notice the difference between pure 256 vs the hybrid. I've got both and I can tell.
Now depending on your usage 256 may not be enough space. I run out all the time. Since you're getting a desktop you could probably attach a thunderbolt drive and get the same speed for a lot cheaper. On laptops it's not practical to carry a spare drive around.
Between processors I don't think you'll notice much of a difference. If you can afford the i7, go for it. But if the price difference between the two is too large I probably would stick with the i5. -
AndreasDpp38yI have 256 GB SSD in my old Mac, and sometimes i dont have enough space, but I can live with it. But have much slower is the fusion drive? πβΊοΈ

xroad23808y@AndreasDpp not crazy slow. But it is noticeable. Way faster than a HDD though. I had an iMac with HDD and I had to return it and get one with fusion.

I have a MacBook (the really thin one) it runs illustrator and Xcode perfectly even at the same time. I'm sure the iMac will outperform the MacBook.
I am going to buy a new iMac, but how much power does Xcode and photoshop. should I buy one with i7 mid model or i5 high end model?
