@amahlaka
As a writer, words should be terse and smooth. They need to flow and not be choppy.
It's difficult to explain these things to nonwriters, so if I'm talking nonsense, then my apologies.
"I, by default"
Isn't as smooth, which is why I corrected it. -
vhoyer13537y@Michelle maybe it could be some language/cultural difference, but for me, in Portuguese, is quite common to use the structure @Artemix is using.
Even as a writer, sometimes you *want* to cause some specific "feel" to the reader by using this structure, especially in poetry.
But hey, who am I to say anything? 😅 -
@Michelle It is grammatically correct due the commas separating "by default" from the rest .
-
@Teabagging4Life
I didn't say it was incorrect. I said it was choppy.
There's no use explaing things to nonwriters.
@vhoyer
I know what you mean, but to convey an emotion through writing, you don't restructure the sentence, but merely use different words. -
jacobsin627y@vhoyer honestly they can see the request coming from your browser for the font and it wouldn't be too difficult to do further deduction from there. Especially if your session has visited multiple sites they can start to gather browsing settings, habits and more.
Use Firefox withe decentralized eyes for blocking the remote fonts etc. -
@vhoyer @olback they do and they're not the only one. Nearly every system has a unique installation/order of system fonts and its genuinely possible (and easy as fuck) to track someone around the Internet by requesting that information and comparing that to the database versions every time. It's also not a secret that they do it :)
-
But to answer the question, nope, I'm not okay with that and for that reason I block that domain through my hosts file :)
It's still a connection to google! I also use the add-on Decentraleyes. -
RAZERZ26797y@Michelle it's possibly why it's "I, by default, block remote..."
It makes it choppy, because there's a line pause when the comma takes place -
RAZERZ26797y@Artemix yes exactly, so it's almost like saying "I. By default. <...>" A longer comma to emphasize the meaning

@Randdev
I'm not being prideful. I was trying to help, but if no one appreicates my help—which they never do—then I won't even try anymore. -
Randdev417y@Michelle I'm not gonna sit here and agree to what you say. It's very obvious that you were acting "high and mighty". But if you're going to stop it, well then; fine by me.
-
@Randdev
I was not acting high and mighty. Is helping others the same thing as being prideful?
I am not a prideful person, as a matter of fact, I am an absolute piece of shit. I am nothing. I am useless and a simply horrid human being. The fact that I can admit this proves I am not conceited, unlike you. -
vhoyer13537y@Michelle sometimes words in the internet just... sounds wrong. So I'm sorry not to appreciate your advice.
-
@vhoyer @Artemix
Oh, thank goodness. I thought you all felt the same about my help. Thank you for understanding.
It was late at night when I wrote my last comment, so reading it now, I guess I over reacted, which I shouldn't have.
@Randdev
My apologies for over reacting. I can see how you thought I was being prideful. -
Randdev417y@Artemix @Michelle You two can say what you want. Since I don't know you, I won't trust you.
-
@Randdev
That is what a child would say. I apologized, you didn't accept my apologies, so I don't care.
Trust me or don't trust me, that is none of my concern. You can behave like a child all you want. -
@Artemix I'm curious what happens in your browser if a website uses Icon fonts such as Font Awesome?
-
@Artemix Thanks for the input! I'm going to seriously reconsider using Font Awesome for my future projects, and instead rely on SVG embedding. No wonder why YouTube uses embedded SVGs instead of font icons...

I know that here are a quite a few stay-away-from-google people here so I thought I'd ask if you're okay with fonts loaded from fonts.google.com?
