Thanks Windows!

I’m really glad you started to install your fucking updates when I tried to wake up you from the “Sleep mode”, and of course you also decided to restart the PC just after that throwing away the entire work I was doing...

There is a linux way πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@Nanos It's ok that Windows 10 wants to update itself when I turn the PC off at the end of the day, it's just annoying when it does it during the day for no reason.

If that tool blocks the automatic updates but keeps the ability to update when I want, it could be useful. :P

All I see is a man who was lazy enough to not update windows in his free time and now bitching when windows had enough of your shit and took matters into its own hands.

    @eternallyAlone
The updates are enabled and I always have the latest version of Windows 10.
It usually installs updates when you turn off the PC, it shouldn't do it when you wake it up from the sleep mode!
That mode allows you to keep all the programs in the RAM, but if Windows decides to restart the PC to install a fucking update erases everything.

@Nanos I forgot I have the Pro version, so I can change the default ability to postpone the update for "0 days" up to 365.
Hopefully this will fix my problem. πŸ˜…

@Nanos yep, it's under "advanced options".
In theory if you set it to 7-30 days, you can update it manually in your free time before it reactivates them automatically, but you need to remember that. πŸ˜‚

Am I the only one that hits CTRL+S every few lines?

How can you leave the computer without saving your work?

Whenever I go to the bathroom I do a git commit and git push, and here you are putting it to sleep without even saving? Windows is not your problem. Not saving is your problem.

@AndSoWeCode I have a key on the keyboard to enter in Sleep mode and I acidentally pressed it, and when I tried to wake it up, it started to install updates.

So it's caused by a coincidence (the accidental pression of the key and the fact that Windows 10 had an update installation in the queue), but it's something I thought can't happen (it shouldn't look for updates during the wake up process...).

    @Jop- why? πŸ˜…

@AndSoWeCode I wouldn't push just for a bathroom break. Seems a bit Overkill. Saving, certainly. Commiting, why not. But I wouldn't be merging my local branch into the development branch and then pushing unless something was completed

@AndSoWeCode plus, I don't think my bowels would wait that long πŸ˜‚

@Nanos I loathe WoW. Lol. I hadn't seen friends in like months, they were just staring in front of their computers for years at a time with nothing left to show for it.

@antic not merging :) just pushing to origin, in case my laptop gets stolen by someone who gets entry in the office or if we have to evacuate the building due to a fire while I'm shitting. Fuck the laptop! The code is what's important.

    Guys.
    Guys.
    Guys.

You can disable automatic updates for good.
    No tools or anything.
    Just edit your Local Policies.
    https://rizonesoft.com/disable-wind...

Literally the first result of searching "win10 disable updates".

    You're welcome

@Nanos dunno man, it's pretty straightforward to me. I've done that in 3 win10 installs so far and it has worked fine every time.

    > This does not disable win10
    > updates, but will stop updates
    > from downloading

That means you won't get any more automatic updates, but you'll still be able to manually update whenever you want

@Nanos you can disable automatic checking as well if you want to. I have done that, and I haven't had any update messages of any kind for nearly 2 months now.

Just open gpedit (local policy editor), go to Computer configuration > Administrative templates > Windows components > Windows Update, and read all the settings in the list, if you open them you'll see a detailed explanation of what they do.

The main two you're looking for are "Configure Automatic Updates" and "Automatic Updates detection frequency". Disable both, and you'll have full manual-only control over any system updates.

Did anyone mention ShutdownGuard (to prevent automatic shutdowns/restarts)? Oldie, but I had gut experiences with it in the past.
