good skill to have - yes. your friends asking you to fix theirs because "something's wrong with it" - oh, hell, no?

learn to do it, but don't mention it too often, you will regret it :D

Its a good skill and i find it quite fun to tinker around with my own computers when the need arises.

I'm very much a software guy but my roots are in hardware. I really love both but software is just a much cleaner straight forward world to be in. Don't get me wrong things can get dirty in software, but usually things are much more definitive when your program breaks VS hardware breaking.That being said it's been very valuable for me to have knowledge of both sides. My current job throws hardware at me at least once a week and they love that I can fix it. It keeps things interesting and looks nice on a résumé as well.
