This is why I sometimes hate freelance work. You do the stuff and when it's time to pay, ducking clients come up with stories

I just worked a month for free because they would not fix a problem in their invoicing system. I finally said no more work without pay. They said send a bill. I did, they said I was over budget so they would not pay. The only extra hours I put in was for specific things they asked for. Total mess. Don't freelance for a company out of nashville with the initials SL.

Make a contract upfront: Pay in increments. That way, not too much work gets wasted if the dumbasses bail.
