Bought an old dell server from a friend since I'm moving to a new place with faster Internet soon!

Searching for few-tb hdd's now and can go to 11gb ram instead of the 1,5 it has right now as well (that friend has that ram available for purchase).

Exciting things!

    Lucky you, ram is getting pretty expensive these days...

    @incognito Don't worry, it's only ddr2 :/

    @linuxxx quick (real quick) look at tweakers still even for ddr2 is about 15 euro's per gb

    As for hard disks, I myself now use a single 5tb disk (wd red). But soon I plan to replace it with 2 or 4 'Seagate barracuda 4tb drives' (https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/...)

    A friend of mine said they were using than on his work (alarm systems with 24/7 security cameras) only they use the the 1tb version

    @incognito A friend of mine have had a number of Barracuda disk fails over a short period, so he started buying WD's instead.
    Those fails could be the result of his RAID rebuild though.

    @theuser I was also thinking of doing a raid setup, but a software one, also raid 1 cuz data safety 💙

    @incognito Me too. I did some research, and it seems like the general consensus is that unless you're prepared to invest some money into a proper RAID controller, a software RAID is preferable over a budget hardware RAID.

    I like you. But you need to tell your country to stop using commas for decimal points.

    Hope that the server does not make any noise
