Went into a thesis class today at my University. The team was presenting their project which was something related to web development.
Half way through the presentation, I realized that the template they were using was one that I had uploaded on ThemeForest for sale xD

Sadly they claimed ownership of the template claiming that they created the design. It was not difficult to see that their website was the best looking out of all around.

(Thesis requires us to create our own design and not to purchase it online)

I would go to the professor and show them the theme under your account and the order that they ordered it from you if you have it

@uziiuzair i think you should let them be. I mean its their thesis, do you really wanna screw them over? How would you feel if you did the same and someone ratted you out?

@uziiuzair in my freshman year of uni, we had a java project that needed to display a map and only at a certain point display a hint box. Well, I couldnt figure out how to do it so I made it so that the hint would appear when you rest the mouse anywhere on the map, but when i presented it, i quickly put the mouse over the location it needed to display the hint box and it did. But some kid was like "professor thats not right. Tell him to rest the mouse elsewhere and see if the hintbox still shows up" right when im about to be home free. Like really? You wouldn't want your presentation sabotaged so don't do it to anyone else.

@uziiuzair even by using someone else's work, you have to put in work (presentation, etc.) at least they made an effort and can bring something to life in the real world. It just takes one second to put yourself in their shoes and say "hmmm ive worked my ass off in university and at the final stage of my thesis, someone rat me out so i got kicked out of the program and lost all the thousands of dollars i paid up to this point" i just cant have that on my conscious tbh. What if they are just trying to get by to eventually get a job and feed their families?

I don't particularly agree with the ... "aww... you wouldn't like to be called out for cheating, so let them cheat by claiming ownership of your work in their thesis ... " viewpoints.

They didn't do the work they are claiming to do. Sure it's only part of their thesis. Sure they *maybe* put in a lot of work on the rest (who knows ... all you know is they claimed your work as their own ... as in plagiarized it). But the thesis required they do the work themselves and they didn't.

I'd be that dick that calls them on it. Why enable cheating and be OK with others claiming your work as their own? Get used to standing up for your work and for not tolerating the lies of others.

Do you really give a fuck if a someone that cheated and took your work thinks you're a dick for calling them out?

As working a lot with open source I am all for building on the work of other - but also giving credit where it is due. But you don't have to go to the professor just talk to them with "Hey guys I'm flattered you used the template I made, but people here know I made it. I'll keep my mouth shut, but if someone else notices that it's mine you might get into big trouble. I don't want that on my conscience - can't you make your own?".

No credit was given? Nail them to the wall. It is their damn thesis of they couldn't be bothered to do it right they don't deserve it.

Tell the Prof. If they couldn't do all of the work for their THESIS, they shouldn't be graduating, no matter how much money they've paid or other work they put in.
Otherwise, all they'll learn is that they can plagiarise without consequence, which will only lead to more trouble for them down the line.

@pyrotazz I 'm sort of agreeing here. Pull a stunt like that while employed and see how fun it is to hear that the company have been sued and they are taking the five billions in damages from your paycheck...
