    How's that a tough question? I find mint way better
  • 3
    @Alice why no Ubuntu ??
  • 2
    @Droid-on-Fire hell yeah!!!111!
  • 1
    @karwler @Droid-on-Fire why arch ?
  • 4
    Solus.
  • 8
    I don't like mint. Its mainly because I don't like cinnamon. It seems to me like they try to look like windows with their start menu and stuff, I think it looks like a cheap Chinese replica of that. Purely subjective stuff πŸ˜„

    I do like Ubuntu tho, even more so now that it uses gnome πŸ‘Œ
  • 1
    @Kryptic0 @LicensedCrime @Droid-on-Fire every one with different opinions ?? See thats why toughest question XD
  • 3
    Definitely Arch but pleeaasse no ubuntu
  • 2
    Anything but ubuntu... The only distro I had problem out of the box *every single time* is ubuntu, just pointing a fact.
  • 1
    Help me plz !! Which will be a good Linux distro !! XD
  • 2
    @b3b3 why no Ubuntu I cannot understand ??
  • 2
    @ShivamRawat0l Honestly it depends of your needs and the experience you have with Linux. Installing Arch when you know nothing about it can be rough for example.
  • 2
    @ShivamRawat0l Ubuntu is good for beginners, but you really should gradually move out after you feel comfortable with managing your OS. Think of it as a primary school where you learn your ABC's and shit
  • 1
    @Audy I have used Kali Linux for a month and I was using windows and it sucks!! So I thought of moving back to Linux but there are so many options and every Linux have its drawbacks !! I am thinking about mintos
  • 1
    @ShivamRawat0l Kali is not really suitable as your day-to-day OS, is specifically aimed for security experts and pentesters, and should only be live-booted in the first place. I personally use Debian because so many distros are derived from it, and it's heavily customizable, but the choice is up to you. My advice is don't run away if you get the error or break something, that's when you learn the most.
  • 2
    @ShivamRawat0l also get an avatar :)
  • 1
    @Audy recommend me a Linux distro and how to set a Avatar XD
  • 1
    @ShivamRawat0l Manjaro is nice, as for avatar open menu, click profile and then press on the avatar.
  • 3
    Ubuntu is nice, simple and stable af. So is Debian. I love Arch but will never consider it for a work solution. Fedora is also a great option and Manjaro is like an ubunru version of arch.
  • 3
    The toughest question of my life was " Why a four dimensional divergence of an antisymmetric second rank tensor equals zero ?"
  • 0
    @Audy should I consider mint !! And what is long term support and why Ubuntu 16 have while 17 does not !!!.
    .
    By the way i got avatar
  • 0
    @ShivamRawat0l You should, Long-Term Support or LTS is a version of Ubuntu that is supported 5 years from it's release. It's really stable and is generally aimed towards servers rather than desktops although desktops can use it as well. As for why they don't have it I don't know as I don't follow Ubuntu-related news.

    @naktop3031 @Audy Well what I have read about mint is that it doesn't get updates fast and some Nvidia users have complained!! Now let's see which Linux I would install
  • 0
    @ShivamRawat0l I run mint with my 1070, nothing to complain about. And it get less updated because it's based on the LTS versions of Ubuntu.
  • 1
    I prefer mint. Less taxing on the ol hardware
  • 0
    @Totchinuko I am using 1050ti should I install mint !!! No problem ?? And how to run games on it like csgo titanfall etc
  • 0
    @Lahsen2016 then which one??
  • 2
    Deffo mint.
  • 0
    @Lahsen2016 well everyone is saying not to use Ubuntu !! Mint have slow updates !! ElementaryOs have noting inside it. !! Kali is for hacking !!

    Which Linux distro should I go for
  • 0
    @Lahsen2016 I just need a os better than windows which is easier to use and I don't have to use terminal much for installing packages !! I just need stable fast Linux !! Thanx for help I will choose between mint or arch
  • 0
    @ShivamRawat0l Well I don't know if those games are compatible. You can eventually check here for steam games. But then again, don't expect that your whole library to run "out of the box" on linux.

    @Totchinuko well I am confused that if I run windows application with wine will it affect the performance !!
    I thought of wine as emulator
  • 0
    @Alice what it do?m
  • 0
    @ShivamRawat0l Wine is not an emulator ^^. But you'r right, it can be rough sometime to run game with wine.
  • 1
    I'm on Xubuntu (lighter distro built on Ubuntu). Be sure to use version 16.10 unless you're feeling adventurous.

    Runs games built for Windows (with Wine) well with a bit of fiddling. I managed to get Wolfenstein 2 running with no issues.

    It's a stable distro πŸ‘Œ

    @saintograph what is difference in Ubuntu and xubuntu. Xubuntu have safe features ?? Dpkg etc. I don't know much right now about Linux !! Xubuntu have the store like Ubuntu ??
  • 1
    @ShivamRawat0l Xubuntu doesn't come bundled with the bells and whistles that sometimes cause issues for certain users.

    It's lightweight; if your system is older that's a good thing.

    Another choice is Kubuntu, which is a minimalist dream come true (unless you're an Arch user).

    @Lahsen2016 which is best distro for programming gaming and unity 3d !! ???
    I just need a stable distro ??
  • 1
    Google 'Pop OS'. It's a beautiful, functional distro. I run Unity with it.

    It's built on top of Ubuntu as well.
  • 0
    @Lahsen2016 well I am using gtx1050 ti !! Thankx for explaining !! Next time my computer awake with mint in it
  • 1
    @saintograph I think i will go with mintOS
  • 0
    @saintograph there is a distro by Google ?? But does it track or monitor data ?? Because I was playing csgo and windows 10 is consuming data in background !! I will check pop os !! Can you explain me this pop OS !! I have heard about it first time ?!
  • 1
    @ShivamRawat0l I meant search for the distro with Google 😁
  • 0
    @saintograph @Alice XD !! So what are its pros and cons !! Well I was watch distrowatch.com and mintOS was at top!! Tell me something about popOS !!
  • 1
    Mint xfce has perfect performance with 800mb of RAM taken up + all customisations
  • 1
    @architect Thankx I will go for mintOS or pop OS
  • 2
    Mint breaks stuff. For purity then - Ubuntu.
  • 0
    @p1ERRson kUbuntu or pop OS
  • 0
    Of course Fedora
  • 0
    @slinkydeveloper so many Linux distos
  • 0
    I'm going to vote for Ubuntu, just because mint breaks like no tomorrow (yay for mixing ubuntu and debian packages)
  • 0
    Solus ftw
  • 0
    @sjlbruce @squirvel what about pop OS and the kUbuntu OS
  • 2
    Honnestly, I don't think we are helping the guy at all xD
  • 1
    @ShivamRawat0l just try them all! Just try a handful of distros by putting them on a USB and booting off of it. After that pick the one you like and install it.

    As a side note: When choosing a distro have 2 categories in mind. The Desktop Envrionment (DE) and the base distro. The DE is the thing you stare at (the GUI, basically startmenu and bundled apps and what not), and the base distro is the actual Linux distro (different package managers, update tools, etc).
    For example if you like KDE and Fedora then use Fedora KDE remix. Likewise, if you like Budgie with Ubuntu, get Ubuntu Budgie.

    Once you pick make sure its compatible with all your hardware. Pretty much everything should work, but your Nvidia gpu might be a problem (make sure you can use the Nvidia binary driver).
    When in doubt, google your computer or the part model (like: Gtx 1050 Ubuntu support).
  • 1
    @Seshpenguin @Totchinuko I am getting more confused but I like the store Ubuntu has but I don't thing Ubuntu is good therefore I need a Linux distro based on Ubuntu !!
  • 0
    @ShivamRawat0l their is quit a lot of them x)
  • 2
    @ShivamRawat0l personally I use KUbuntu: I like KDE, and I find Ubuntu has a nice middle ground of stability and updates. Also works nice with my NVidia Optimus gpu.

    Choose a simple/easy distro for now, and if you want move on to something more advanced ones like Arch.
  • 0
    @Totchinuko tell me some stable distro based on Ubuntu user friendly and fast
  • 0
    @ShivamRawat0l I'm not really the right person for that sorry
  • 0
    @Lahsen2016 thanks
  • 1
    @ShivamRawat0l My typical suggestion for total linux noobs is xubuntu. Debian testing would probably also be good, though it's a slight bit more hands on like manjaro
  • 1
    @squirvel just found out about Zorin and seems great
  • 3
    @ShivamRawat0l I like that interface a lot more than ubuntu... but I cannot judge because I had ubuntu one day...
  • 1
    @Lahsen2016 Well yea but why use mint at all then? What's the benefit over say Ubuntu? To me mint has always seemed like Ubuntu + cinnamon, could be wrong tho.
  • 1
    @Froot it kinda really is. It has some other environments, it champions mate and cinnamon, but one can easily install those ins any other distro. I guess some people prefer Mint because they do not like the way Canonical does some things. For example when they brought Unity as the primary de for Ubuntu everyone went ape shit. To me both distros are practically indistingushable and normally just go for Ubuntu. This is a common issue with Linux, waaay too much fragmentation.
  • 0
    @AleCx04 @Froot @naktop3031 @squirvel @Totchinuko @Seshpenguin@architect @Lahsen2016 @Alice Installed zorinOS it's good but hangs sometimes !! Well I am trying this and get stuck sometimes !!
  • 1
    @ShivamRawat0l I have not heard about it but I installed SemiCodeOS it was nice but it was in beta version so I cannot install it...
  • 2
    @Lahsen2016 But it doesn't. The default search is gnome search tool. And even in unity they removed it a long time ago.
  • 2
    @AleCx04 Yea, contrary to popular belief in the community, fragmentation is a problem. Thankfully Ubuntu has sort of been fixing it.
  • 1
    @Lahsen2016 Hehe no probs ☺️
  • 0
    @Froot @Lahsen2016 @naktop3031 @AleCx04 @squirvel Using windows with virtual box at the end
  • 1
    @ShivamRawat0l I don't think that it is the best way :/
