Biggy132917yMy wife: What about Monitor and SSD ? I think you can buy on Christmas if is on sale.
Me: 😮😮😮😮😳 -
skprog19167y1 up you guys.
Her : So you wanted a 4k tv. Because you got a pro playstation 4. Ah ok.
Me :🤔 cant tell if she is buying or if shes setting a trap. -
Most of us here are struggling with work and job let alone don't have time to think about girlfriend or future, and this guy here is like has cheat codes for winning at life.

I literally stood and swapped computer parts in my computer a whole day without my girlfriend noticing. She thought I was “rearranging cables”. In fact I was installing a X370 + 1600X with 16GB 3200MHz 😅😅

wouldnt the 1600x be a better choice? Overclock it and it has more equal power to the 1800x, which is not very overclockable.
Another option is the 8700K it is better then the ryzen lineup cuz of OC performance to 4,6Ghz without much additional cooling -
@bittersweet i know but all other messurable values are better too.
QC floats,
QC ints,
SC floats,
SC ints
ops/s
Technical speaking the 1800x only makes sense for video editing or 3d rendering or if you need a shitton of PCI lanes anything else is more benificial on a OC 1600x or 8700K -

@Hammster What about multitasking, running high amounts of applications? I use 3 displays at work, 6 at home, tend to play games in a qemu vm, while code is building/testing, with a dozen browser tabs open, at least 2 IDEs, etc. I tend to put quite a bit of load on all cores of my 1700x.

@Linux Hmm nice. I still get a pretty big vaporware feeling from that game though.

@bittersweet A 1600X has more performance/$ then a 1700X/1800X which is the main point in my argument.
The 1800X has the advantage of more cores, which will be good "if" someone runs as many applications as you do. But for single applications the performance is still lower.
This is the main reason i'm cheering for the 8700K in this case, it runs at a higher clockspeed when OC'ed, it has better arithmentical capabilities and more applications are optimized for Intel quirks then they are for AMD, which results in better game performance. I know this because I work in the gaming industry, we primarily optimize intel.
And this is very well represented on user benchmark

Still if the main gloal is multithread performance a 1800X is a valid choice, especially if you use all cores at once. -
RageBone5997y@Hammster the 1800x has more pcie lanes?
Thought they were hard caped at 16 + 4(m.2) +4 PCH? -
@RageBone shit your right, threadripper had the double of pcie lanes, should have checked that statement first :P

vertti4537y@Hammster your insights make me happy I chose 8700K 6 weeks ago
Now I can feel superior while running my code editor, shell and a browser 😪
My wife = Best wife
Her: Is that the motherboard and CPU you wanted?
Me: Yes, you get alot of power for the money (Ryzen 7 1800)
Her: Alright, you should order thoose things next week if they are not on sale this friday
